Going blow through.
I was going to wait to get a billet housing, but I'll have to go blow through before I can get one in...

What are you guys doing to convert the standard MAF housing to a blow through design? I know about JB Welding the top so that the MAF sensor itself doesn't blow out, but what about making the housing run inline on my IC piping.

I thought about just using the adapter plate for my filter and a coupler, but that seems a little sketch and I think it's like 3.5 or 4" anyway.

Any thoughts, ideas, perfect solutions?

Thanks!

I think, from what i've seen people are taking some sort of dremel, ban saw, chop saw and cutting the end with the filter mount on the maf right off and using coupler's to integrate it into the ic piping. You definatly have to jimmy rig something to keep the sensor from blowing out. I wouldn't jb weld it if you plan on getting a billet housing, that might make getting the sensor out a pita. Maybe zip tie the shieet out of it until you can get the housing.

or a aluminum maf adapter and a 3" to 2.5" silicone hose.

I've seen some on autozone and a couple of other places, but I'm not sure if they will work. If they would, I'd just order one of those.

You mean the same adapter that the filter is connected to? I thought about that, but it doesn't look too sturdy. Might be the easiest way to go for about a week or so.

I'm also thinking hella tight duct tape around the maf housing to keep it from blowing out as a temp (and very ugly) fix.

Just buy one from TurboTank pre-built that fits the bill perfectly!

I'm planning on it, but I have a dyno tune on Monday before IFO, and I need to get something worked out before then. He'll be fabricating this batch through the weekend. Not enough time.

I used a band saw to cut the flange off, then I used a belt sander to get it down the rest of the way. Blew it out with some compressed air and cleaned it with some MAF cleaner.

Not a bad idea.

On another note: Every pic of an engine bay has every thing so clean on the left (right as you're looking at it) side. I need to clean my shyt up... It's a mess.

I made a post in the tuning section about a company that modifies the Ford MAFs to work with the 300zx VQ map but flow more air. I think they were going for $180? The HPX mafs are slot style so you just have to weld the bung to the intercooler pipe. You should also tell them what size intercooler piping your putting the maf into. 3" would be best but 2.75 will do the job too.
