Anyone done a gt28rs compressor wheel swap on a gtir?
I picked up a blown t28 in hopes of rebuilding it. Well I measured the turbine and found it to be the GTIR turbine. I also had in my possession the adapter plate and compressor housing for the gt28rs. My question is, has anyone done this swap? If so, how did the turbo preform?

not much better, you would need more than a compressor wheel. you would need the backing plate, comp housing, wheel and a re balance.

at the end, you gain would be about the same as running a T04B compressor housing, maybe 10 more HP.

Yep, got that too. Balance and rebuild is not an issue. Considering I have right at 100 tied in this already, getting it balanced an rebuilding it myself is not an issue.

10hp over what? A t28? A gtir?

doh, not sure how i missed that!! Lol

gtir t28 is good for 330 ish, the gtir t28 with a T04b comp is good for 340ish. with the disco wheel and comp it would be good for 350.

@$100, rebuild kit and balance is another $150 maybe. disco wheel is another $100. so it would total to $350, not a bad deal!

edit: forgot to mention that I would verify the shaft size before getting the wheel to make sure they fit.

Yeah, shaft size is the same. I bought a blown gt28rs to see what made it tick. Then mocked up the bad comp wheel from it onto the gtir shaft and it is perfect. Thanks for the info, keo.

Slow going on this project. Gotta finish the motor and source a few more parts. But, when its all done and on a dyno, I will report back.

Its a damn same that I cant get a better ar exhaust housing too. From what I understand, exhaust housing upgrades yield better results vs comp housing and wheel upgrade.
