Thread: 3.5" pipe on 2.75" compressor inlet and N62 MAF?? Will it work??

Well guys, I have a quick question. Looks like I made a mistake when ordering my compressor inlet pipe and instead of it being 2.75-3" as I expected, lets just say it was much bigger..........

Now, here is the question; will there be any issues with running a 3.5-4" induction pipe with one end to a N62 MAF housing and the other being a ran to the compressor inlet of a turbo (2.75" inlet size)??

Please negate the issue of me ordering the incorrect size as it was a simple mistake on my part and the part cannot be returned

What's the diameter of the N62 MAF? I am unfamiliar.

n62 is 3inch you will need to get a silicone reducer for both sides ..it would look funny but it can work

If you had to stretch it that would be one thing..... but if you need to stack more than 1/4" of hose to make it fit snug I think you're just asking for a boost leak. Now if you were running blow-through you could get away with and intake pipe set up kinda funny.

Short answer; IMO just get the right part.

Slightly bigger then 3" OD, I think it's closer to 3.15", always a pita getting 3" couplers on them!



He is doing it on the turbo intake side, so no boost pressure, staking couplers would work, but would be rather crappy imo.

Now I think I have a spare 2.75" to 3" coupler Chris, I was gonna go 3" intake but am not going to bother. If Keo stops slacking and comes down already, I can get it to you through him .

Thanks for the response guys! Turns out I may give it a shot if the correct coupler comes my way. That or modify the housing to fit the N62 MAF.

MAFs really like straight pipe around them, with no size changes either. A honey-comb style mesh before (and after) can help a lot in that area if you have to do bends or size changes.
You know me. I'd get the right size stuff.

I see your point Ben. Stabilized (i.e. straightened) airflow is the name of the game when it comes to MAFs.

Here are some general numbers I found on locations. You want to have at least a few inches of straight pipe before the MAF, after the MAF it doesn't really matter. This is why I like draw through a little more, I can have the filter directly on the MAF with a flowstack to normalize the flow.

Also some other numbers:
Draw through
MAF should be at least 12" from turbo inlet

Blow Through
MAF should be at least 12" from Butterfly
BOV should be at least 6" from MAF
