Thread: Which exhaust gasket/washer would you use (Protech Mani/ Gasket or OEM, etc). Help

Whaddya think about these Brent?? The only issue I am somewhat worried about is it's resilience to heat (didn't find any grade 8 bolts/nuts). No washers as of yet

I was able to get the nuts on my old protech manifold, I think I did use smaller the stock ones though. I think those two are the only ones that are much worse then GTiR one.

yeah on these turbo manifolds stuff gets really tight and the smaller nuts will definitely help. I had the extended enjuki racing ones and loved them but some manifolds wont work with them due to length.

Thanks for the recommendation guys!! When I make my trip to the hardware store next, I will pick up a set and see how they work

Also, I think I may have came up with another solution. Now I DID end up purchasing a complete stud, nut and washer kit from Greg which should be here this week

Regardless here is what I came up with:

I basically ground down the washer on one corner to fit over the raised portion of the manifold runner. Seems to work just fine. I will know for sure on Friday once I get the OEM in and grind them down. In the meantime, here are pics. Let me know your opinions

I like that. Cody used to shave down stock washers and stuff all the time to fit around welds and things. That should work fine.

Ohh that's right, I remember having to do the same with that log (I'm assuming you bought it from keo?).

Which cars came with washers on the exhaust manifold side? I've only owned 99+ SR20's and all of them had exhaust nuts that were huge and no washers.

My two 99 cars had them. Maybe it is a roller rocker thing to not have the big washers.

No, not this manifold. This setup was purchased brand new from Protech back in the day. The engine is a 98 SR20 for reference

Just a quick update:

I shaved down 3 of the total 8 washers and so far so good. It looks I am getting proper surface area contact between the bolts and the surface of the washer. I also tightened down the bolts in a star fashion and no leaks to report so far. Once I am able to drive the car again, I will check back after I do a 100-200 mile loop to see how they are sealing.
