Thread: Intercooler piping ideas

Here's what I did, keeps the AC and everything in its place, no problems. Sorry pics aren't great, need to snap some better ones of the actual piping/routing.











The only thing is, I did have to remove the front mount and do something custom.

good god that front mount is sketchy

It's 3 layers of 1/4" steel, not sure if it's anymore sketchy than the stock mount would have been. Haven't had one issue with it, but since the car is sitting at the moment, will probably create a cross-brace for it and see about getting it welded up.

its not as bad as it seems.im still figuring out vacuum hoses for the jdm engine.(dont have time i need for it), but the piping was pretty straight forward.i also used the avenir intclr with most piping.the intercooler inlet and outlet pipes were like a street 45 to a 90 sweep which would bring my run right underneath the radiator support. i ran my pipe tight under freon lines. there were to 45 sets im pretty sure to my custom cut silicone 90 clocked at a 45(this way i did not have to notch crossmember).from outlet to tb it ran in between/in the midst of battery tray and trans.the way i made my ac fit on a det setup is my notching of one of the mounting holes for theheatshield.cut out that part of heatshield and thermal wrapped the 180 line close to manifold.. there are other routes available shorter routes are available but require you to get pipe fabbed or getting a wire feeder.once your pipe line is assembled get yourself a furnco coupling and correspondin pvc cap for one side and a pvc reducer fitting . the reducer fitting will be needed to reduce to 3/8 npt im pretty sure to accept a push fitting for the compressor.test it to 20 psi.make a bubble solution out of detergent and water. watch your psi. if it drops spray for leaks tighten until your holding

This is how I plan on doing my setup. Already have the right intercooler, piping to be ordered soon and then we go from there. Not in a rush though. Only difference with my setup would be I still have AC. Like I said earlier. It is possible for the 2.5 piping to pass alongside the radiator and ac condenser. Takes a little trimming but it HAS been done. It is however TIGHT fit. lol

Tube and fin stay away! Intercoolers are heat sinks, you want it to be dense and heavy. No point in better flow if it doesn't suck heat out, might as well just run an aluminum straight pipe .
