Even still, rocker arm stoppers would be benificial at high RPM, not when you're trying to start the car, right?

Retainers are brian crowers. I had them on the old build and never once had any issues like this.

Yea, just make sure every bolt is tight considering one bolt will tighten down, then when you tighten the rest the cam will seat more making that first bolt not flush/tight anymore.

Found out what the problem was (MAYBE)...

Just so happens that out of all the HLA's I bled, one didn't bleed properly. There was play in the HLA in that I could depress it and it would contract a little bit. I re-bled it,and now it's rock solid.

Now I'm off to the shop to get another bolt, as I broke one off in the head and had to extract it.

I threw a rocker when I put in my S4s last week. I knocked one off when I was putting the intake cam in place. I put it back of course, and I thought it was seated properly. I even rotated the engine by hand. When I started it up- lub, lub, clak clak clak- and I shut it off. Pulled the valve cover and sure enough, that rocker was off. It just scuffed it a little, nothing serious. I took it apart, put it all back together, and now all is well.

Anyhow, I think the lifter would be noisy if it wasn't bled, but I don't think that could throw the rocker. I bet it wasn't fully seated when you put everything together.

Well, I don't think it'd be noisy, if the car never actually started. Nevertheless, I've now broken two cam cap bolts. One was frail anyway, and the other one was entirely my stupidity. The longer one for the oil tube is the one that broke, because I didn't use it on the oil tube/cam cap.
