Thread: VE cam options with 8.5 CP's and no reliefs?

so basically 10.5:1 compression is a no no with ve head??

I would guess it would depend on the piston design and valve reliefs.

Which cams do better on boost(eventually about 20psi), sr16 (non n1) or the 20v? Stock VE S/R good for 7500-8k rpm correct?

It depends on how efficient your setup is. If you have a more restrictive fast spooling setup that will create some backpressure then the 20v cams or VET cams might suite you better. If you have a very efficient setup that spools later but holds power well into the upper rpms youd be better off suited for SR16's or if you have valve reliefs then n1's.

Its been dyno proven by a couple people. So base it off the turbo and manifold setup. And when I say turbo, i mean the backhousing size and by manifold i mean is it a log or tubular manifold.

Ashton, I have a sidewinder style manifold and a turbonetics t04b with a stage 2 turbine wheel. Cant remember the backhousing size off the top of my head but i will look in a bit. Judging by what you said looks like the 20v may sound like the better cam for my setup. Im shooting for a strong reliable 400hp, i understand i may not need to do cams to reach my goal but, just curious as what options i have. I have to shim my valves while its down so just throwing around ideas.

if its the small backhousing meaning smaller than the .82, then use the 20v or VET cams. If its the .82, 16ve's will work well.

Any of those would be better than the stock VE cams and let you move the powerband up a good 1000+ rpm due to just being able to rev higher with the better cam profile even on stock springs and retainers. Valves start floating on stock cams around 7500-7700, on 16ve's you can go to 8500 on stock springs and retainers with no problem.
