Thread: 6 speed swap poll - issues?

I replaced the prothane that was in the rear with the JWT piece I had (very low miles)....it was installed with a different crossmember and UNISA JECS bushings. The rear prothane DID however show signs of wear at the center. I guess I could definitely try another Prothane, that's easy enough.

The bushing in the pass mount is also slightly tweaked but not near like the driver's side trans mount. Looks like it's slightly tweaked BECAUSE of the way the motor has rotated.

I will be poking around on it this weekend.

I wonder if the Custom Steel unit would clear this manifold setup...are these still available thru Greg?

The hubs were replaced (before machining hubs was a known option) w/ 4x114 hubs from a salvage yard...if there's some tweakage there, I could see it wanting to 'pull' the motor...maybe? Comments welcome.

I'll be looking at everything with a fine-toothed comb this weekend. Whatever it is, it seems like it should be a pretty obvious issue based on how much movement there is.

are you running spacers by chance in your cross member where the back mount sits? the motor has to be moving backwards?
I've done 4 of these swaps all be it none are boosted but mine was nitrous-fed, daily beaten not driven, we all use a prothane rear insert. no movements whatsoever

by the 3 of the 4 swaps were n15 which is the same chassis as the b14 just different shape

Did you strap it down on a dyno and row through the gears to see how much movement your getting? if the motor is flopping around could be a bad sign.

if dyno is not an option now, jackstands may be an option....

Wow man, I never saw this get that bad. That mount looks terrible! Even after 1 year I only had to re-adjust that mount once or twice.

I could never use both metal washers though, because the bracket from the dealer had that welded piece on there that prevented both washers from fitting. I wonder if there is still a misalignment there with the dealer's bracket. Perhaps find a mount bracket from the junk yard?

I have no idea what could be causing it to pull that far. The steering knuckles probably aren't the issue. They were in pretty good shape when I got them, other than the bearings being shot.

The mounts are all urethane. Black poly mounts. And that damn axle bracket should not have had issues with screws coming loose after the red loctite was uses. GRRRR. Just a stupid design.

If you have a 6 speed swap, take that aluminum axle bracket down to a welder and have him weld it up properly. You don't want that thing to come loose and cause issues.

I'm wondering more about the pass.mount now...since I can't see it. It does seem like that is the pivot point.

I've decided on new mounts all the way around, pending investigative poking around this weekend.

B13 here, I bought a new drive side bracket from the dealer also and shaved the welds down to fit the washer (super tight).mine is heading in the same direction as yours.not good.only 1500 miles on mine..keep us posted..good luck

This is getting somewhere! Because without anyone else having a similar issue, this would make hunting down the cause that much more difficult. We need to narrow down whether or not the dealer's mount bracket was manufactured the same as the ones supplied by the factory. It's a shot in the dark, but both of these mounts having issues are using supplied brackets that require modification to fit the large washers...

Or I could be way off. :P
