Turbo Adventure
So i've been in the na game for quite some time and thought, let me get my feet wet in the turbo world. I am a turbo noob and coming from VE land. This is what I had in mind for my turbo adventure...the plan is to run around 15-20lbs of boost with expectations of around 400whp.

Its a tossup with what turbo
2871r(simplicity of using GTiR manifold is a plus)
Or 6262
VVL
SR16 cams
Mild head work(or maybe not)
9:1cr piston rod combo
8cw Crank and Girdle
740 injectors
Full 3inch exhaust
B15 tranny
External Wg 38mm

There is more but I typed this 3 times and remember and forget certain things. Turbo guys if there is anything I should or shouldnt do please let me know what you think. Oh and if you do have a suggestion please explain why you should change it out.

- Run the bigger turbine housing when it comes to such a relatively "small" turbo (T2 sized turbos, unless done correctly, can have disappointing at best results because of how the VE head reacts to flow restrictions)

- Unless you know how to properly port a GTI-R manifold, this will also hinder the VE head significantly and again, you will have disappointing results!

- SR16 cams have non turbo friendly overlap. Not recommended. I think Stock VE cams are better for turbo application than SR16

- Run A T3 backhalf turbo at minimum and a proper manifold and you will be fine. In my personal opinion, T2 framed turbos would not be my frist choice on a DE much less a VE (but again "MY OPINION")

Everything else checks out. Do your research. Coheed, Vadim and several others have done this and have proven what does and what does not work. Read!

Good luck!

looks like a solid build.

for those power goals u may wanna look into having a tubular exhaust manifold made for T2. or if u run a T3 turbo use a log or equal length mani.

deff wanna run a 3" j pipe too. stock cast j pipes dont flow enough.

keep us posted on the build.

Sounds like a good plan, why the big drop in compression ratio?

I wouldn't completely live by that suggestion. SR16 cams are better suited for less restrictive setups, i.e. T3 turbo w/ EQL manifold. stock 2.0 cams are better for more restrictive setups, i.e. T2 turbo with log manifolds.

Numbers in my sig. Its a t2 based turbo but its on a asp el manifold with a 40mm jgs gate. I am also running p12 20v cams. It can be done t2 but it would be cheaper to go 6262 and a nice manifold. If I ever change I would go 6262. My motor setup is setup is pretty much what you have on the list with springs and retainers.

I am 6262 and it seams to be a pretty good setup ....but beware it is allot of power for these platforms to try to harness .

Why such a big jump in turbos? Have you considered 30r or something similar in size? If you do go t2 now, evenyually youll just upgrade to T3.

With that being said...t3 or bust..

Extra strength lighter weight. If I'm not mistaken 9:1 is off the shelf. Evrything else is goin g to cost extra $$$.

That would be one item I forgot to addto the list springs and retainers

I did consider somethin t3 based, I thought of the 2871r because of the simplicity of using the GTiR manifold.

The only thing I'm not 100% on the the turbo, therefore it will be the last thing I get to complete my build. I just need to research and talk to a few people.

Thank you guys, discuss on I don't mind the knowledge.

with your ability to rev out definitely get a bigger turbo. you can give up some spool time due to higher revs.

Also if you already have the b15 tranny then I guess go ahead and use it otherwise I'd just stick with the b14. it has a bad rep but a lot of us have had good luck with them on turbo setups.
