yes they will swap no prob. The 8.5 pistons will be 9.3:1 with the VE head. assuming sr20ve block, rods, and crank.

I know this is an old thread, but I have a question. Would I need to mod the pistons at all for the VE? Will any DET pistons work? W11, GTIR, etc.

The factory stamps the block and pistons with a grade. You would need to match up piston grades with block grades. Most blocks (and pistons) are grade two, but if you crack open your motor and find that it is something like 2-2-2-1, you'll need to find 3 grade two pistons and one grade 1 piston.

valve relief notches on the tops of the pistons for valve clearance

^yessir tonyklem remember your running bigger cams the standard de/det cams so you if u didnt notch ur pistons then you'd have the valves and pistons coming into contact
