Again, after reading the last page ESPECIALLY with Steve's last post to Coheed, I think this needs to be quoted again...............

I've had the solution for this issue for a while...

I've got young children. Repetition is a fact of life for me.

Synthetic Durablend Valvoline is the only gear oil I use in my gear boxes and it has never done me wrong. I will never use anything else. It is in my opinion that the shock proof oil is not that shock proof. I have seen many a gear box use that stuff and not last any longer than conventional gear oil.

It is great to see the P11 gear box idea I worked on back in 2002 is still a great option. I figured this out on a customers G20T who left it with me for 2 weeks. I had to do a clutch job on his car, so since the box was out of the car, I opened his gear box up, checked it out and saw the gears were larger, made a few calls and walla a new option to replace the older 91-99 32 series gear box.

The B15 6 speed gear box is the the true funk in the trunk..... well under the hood. I am going to do one soon on my car, just been very busy with life.

My suggestions on strength were based on a street-driven car, and again before I blew up several more transmissions.

The pic shows a wider 3rd gear, but thinner teeth on 2nd (probably explains why I sheared it, when noone else had that issue). So there is compromise. If you are running a JWT pp/sprung full-disc and still blowing the 32 box, even with all the stuff you guys are doing to prolong it, the 70 box isn't much stronger. And overall strength is only part of the issue. I've run 500whp through a 32 box without failure (for a while) and blown up a 70 box on 400whp in a short while.

The 70V was the holy grail of transmissions. I got flamed when I would bring up my failure rate on them. I'm only mildly abusive, never WOT shift, and ride the clutch a bit between shifts. But I got to the point where I could blow the transmission up whenever I wanted to drop my heavy foot.

The RS6 was only part of my solution. I also put on a 6262, and lowered the boost. This allowed more power with less boost, and lowered the torque output of the engine from 440wtq to 380wtq. I really didn't want to blow the 51h.

Even the 51h is "weak" on the track. Spec V guys still blow their transmissions too. But it is still much stronger than the 70V.

It is enlightening to see my old posts about the differences in transmissions, and to see my perceptions now. I guess you could say I'm cynical about a 70V holding up just because of my experiences. But hey, my first 70V box held up the best, lasting 2 years and hundreds of drag passes on street tires.

*edit* I understand everyone knows the 51H is the stronger transmission. You're a smart bunch of guys, and this is proven. I'm only making this point because there was a lot of time and money spent to make this 70 box last. Hopefully this transmission lasts several seasons! I'm only skeptical and offering my own perspective through tracking and daily driving the super sentra. Granted, the super sentra was making 2x the power, but it very rarely saw the track. I would like to see how this treated transmission holds up this season, and best of luck to you steve!

Well you could ask the 2J Racing guys if they have ever broken a gearbox on their 200+ whp race car. That thing has been through many many seasons of racing and I have yet to see any gearbox failures posted up by them. Ever!. And they have raced on many different tracks.
@Andreas Miko You using the 85w140 Valvoline Durablend now as well?

Sorry guys if a transmission is going to break there's no gear oil out there that can stop it. It's not like they break because of lubrication issues. They break because of the shafts flexing under pressure. The only thing that can stop that is getting the parts treated. I've worked on trannies that broke using shockproof and i've broke trannies using 85w140. I put it in my tranny and it still broke. I'm sure the 6 speed tranny is stronger but it's not for everyone. I'm sticking with the P11 cause I spent $1100 on a twin disk clutch and don't want to go out an waste money on another one. For road racing I think the setup these guys are using is good enough. We all don't have to do the same thing, it's ok to be different.
