GTIR engine has a lot of advantages and has disadvantages.

Bluebird/Avenir engines have more cam options than the GTIR
The GTIR requires more modification to get running properly, things like tps, resistor wiring for the injectors and so on.

The GTIR however has a slightly better flowing head and intake manifold
GTIR has grooved mains to allow better oiling to the main and rod bearings
GTIR has 19mm rod bearings and much beefier rods and piston ring lands

If you want simplicity the bluebird or Avenir motors are your best bet.

The GTIR is a stout motor though.

And like one already mentioned, GTIR block w/ VE Head FTMFW!!

An avenier is much easier to get parts for and as long as you change out the stock turbo to at least a gti-r will be plenty for a street car. You can also get a newer engine that is less likely to be beat on going with an avenier.

I don't know man I enjoyed the BBT25 on my B14 a lot more then I did GTiR T28. Now I have a DET and regular T25 and it's still hecka fun on a B15. I have a GTiR T28 just picking up dust because I remember how much less fun it was on DET and on VE+T. Soon enough T25 will be replaced with a Disco, that should be best of both worlds :-D

boost a stock de screw a det no point in dropping money on a motor when a de can handle big boost too

Agreed with that also.... It makes sense as long as you have a good de and do not want a t25 setup that you will try and boost the crap out of. If that is the case you might be cheaper and easier with an avenier and give you lower compression for pushing the baby turbo.

Vadim- I think the t25 is fun but don't like how past 6k it gets choked out. That is why I like the t28, I am wondering if you had an issue with yours. Doesn't spool that much later than a t25 and holds power to stock redline without feeling choked.

i love these "which is better" threads. And love even better the responses. 450+ hp has been achieved on stock internal RR de's, the shittiest, weakest sr20 ever made. Its all in tuning guys. all de's, asside from the rr, share a forged internal rod a crank assembly, with a girdle, and 8 counterweights. the only one diffrent is the gtir, with bigger mains and rods if i remember correctly. "better" is a relative term. The amount of people achieveing enough hp on their cars for it to matter are a handful at best. Honeslty, a healthy de is my opinion BEST. you can get parts anywhere, and replacements are plentiful. spending 1000-2000 dollars on these avenir and gtir motors is pointless to the level of it being almost ignorant. Ive been down every path with these cars, and the only option that makes any sense in a fwd car is a t2 flanged factory manifold setup on a stock de.....the higher compression makes the car much faster, and aggressive than the lower compression turbo motors. The only thing that kills these motors, is people not changing the oil regularly and turning the thing into a sludge monster, and lack of tuning, and detonation, causing broken ring lands. Ive had multiple setups, 3 of which were stock de motors, one with over 200 000 miles, and they REGULARLY saw 18psi from gtir turbos. you could argue the gtir is the BEST due to the larger internal rod and main bearing structure, but its all based around the same 8cw forged internal girdled layout. all are good motors, for pretty much any hp level under 500 hp.....which very few people will achive.

I'd boost any DE, they are all good candidates. Just that DET's are more forgiving when it comes to people who don't know much. To blow up a DET something either went really wrong or the tuner did something stupid. A DE can take a lot of abuse and power but it is a thinner line.

same thing ive been saying for......past 10 years. de, jim wolf ecu 72 pound hr top feed program with 300zx maf, walbro, stock avenir/gtir manifold, gt2871 or comparable, there you go, 18 psi daily driver beat the shit out of all the time 11 second car. done and done. many times, proven reliable, old news.....next subject. dets......eh, same pistons as de, same ringland failures.....i think people are running into bad batches of gas, or their cheaping out and not running 93 octane, or their advancing their ignition. I mean, look at all the rwd cars blowing up on t25s. good bet is your doing a cheap ass build, and using a stock ecu, and 370cc injectors, which are no good anything over 10 psi on a t25. i dont think its anything less than the fact that people that build nissans are CHEAP, and dont spend the money on engine management/fuel. I dont know why im ranting about this.....i guess i just feel like over the 10 years ive been building these cars....im seeing discusion topics that i saw back then, and wondering where the old hats went that pulled 11s out of t25 setups on de's. And YES, that happend.
