Is this a new motor? Were you monitoring the oil pressure when this happened? What oil were you using when the turbo went bad?

Journal bearing turbos ABSOLUTELY REQUIRE a restrictor fitting with our oil pressures.

No brainer. Most big boy domestic setups have significantly lower oil pressures than our tiny lil' 2L motors. Hence the "restrictor not needed".

Oil pressure is what killed your turbo. Sorry.

I wouldnt say that cliff. If anything all oil pressure is going to do is blow the seals out not destroy the shaft. It all depends on the size line you use on the setup. When I talked to BW about mine they said even with my high oil pressure that as long as i used my -3an line that I was fine with using no restrictor and thats what they recommended.

If i was using a -4 line then they highly recommended the use of a restrictor. So again it depends on the setup really.

Im thinking no bov is what bent/damaged the shaft. If thats the case that it didnt open. The PTE turbos Journal bearing shafts seem really delicate. So yeah make damn sure the bov is working properly.

I'm leaning more towards oil pressure issue, I had a customer's car blow a perfectly good Gt35r because he insisted on running 5w30 oil. Not saying that is the case here but there are a lot of things that have to be taken into consideration before making an opinion or giving advice. It would suck for the OP to change his turbo only to blow it right back up .

Btw the GT35r replaced by a Pte6765 along with good weight oil and has not given any problems with the turbo what so ever and has been daily driven for almost a year now.

Turbos are usually the first ones to go when ever there is an oil pressure issue.

I used -3an line no restrictor and -10 drain.this is what precision recommended when I spoke too them.
Rottela T6 5w-40
oil 25psi @ idle not sure @WOT when this happened.
Im getting a fresh turbo rebuild and dont want this to happen again.
I also will put new lines,fittings,Bov,wastegate,Oil,oil pump,oil psi gauge just for a piece of mind..

They recommended based on your specific setup? If so, they don't know SR motors well. I'm telling you, no restrictor and 100psi plus under high load scenarios will blow your seals and that will cause shimmy of the thrust bearing due to lack of lubrication which will send it out of control, causing the wheels to bounce and the shaft will disintegrate.

Im pretty much positive it was not an oil pressure related issue. Again too much oil pressure will blow the seals out not blow apart the shaft. Too little oil pressure can cause the shaft to seize and blow apart. Again i ran the same -3an line, no restrictor and so on on my JB BW turbo and no issues.

It was either bov related or just another defect Precision turbo. Again all too common.
