if i run an external wastegate... would i be able to eliminate my J pipe?

huh? are talking about the exhaust j pipe. if so no, exhaust has to go somewhere man. not all the exhaust goes out the wastegate

Yes, you can do many things instead of the J-pipe. You could also do without it, even with an internal wastegate. The world is your oyster.
