Thread: AC causing overheating

Ok heres what I got
w10 sr20det with s4 cams
gtir t28 with s14 compressor and exhaust housing
F38 external wastegate
Mishimoto rad and slim fans (shroud removed to make room for EWG dump)
60%water 40% coolant with watter wetter
factory undertray
VIS EVO hood
new OEM thermostat

I have bled and bled and all the easy stuff (even a flush). Originally the car even without ac would get about 2 10-220 (fans on all the time) I knew it was getting heat soaked so I got the vented hood now the car wont get above 190 without ac the problem lies that in stop and go highway traffic with the ac on it will start to try to overheat. if im at a stoplight itll just stay about 210-220 then when i start moving it'll go down to 190 but in stop and go hwy traffic it wont recover until im moving for at least 45s or i turn off the ac (within 1min it'll go from 225 to 195 just from turning off the ac)
I do have the factory oil cooler installed. Any ideas I'm thinking at the very least a turbo blanket may help? Again this only happens when the temp is 97+ and in stop and go HWY traffic. any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I take it your using cheap slim fans? I had the same problem, even with a Koyo (36mm). Now I have an Aluminum radiator that's similar in size to the NX Rad (26mm), and SPAL slim fans, it has no issues with AC and boosting.

Also AC adds load to the motor and the ac condenser gets hot, which means hotter air going to the radiator itself.

Like Vadim said, your fans are not keeping up. Get some quality fans and try those. I have also heard the 90's Ford Taurus electric fans flow very well if you are on a budget.

What cfm are the spal fans?the mishimotos are supposed to be 900cfm. If thats the case ill probably only take it out when its below 98 degress out and eventually put a spal in. Os there any way you could lmk what model your using

Those numbers are fake, I had silicon intake fans that claimed to be 1600cfm, they probably didn't even do 500cfm by how hard they blow compared to my 900cfm Spals.

heres another thought. what about modifying the mishimoto shroud (which is not on there bc of the turbo stuff) to use one taurus fan in front of the trans with the shroud. any ideas bc they flow 3800cfm iirc.

slim fans suck balls. You have to spend good money for good fans, that's for sure. The slim fans I got do not move enough in a pusher config to keep the car cool on the track, even on only 10psi.

I know some quality spal fans would do it.

My slim fans put out 1500cfm. I didn't buy cheap ones though. They kick on and kick right off. They sound like a turbo when they come on lol.

Mine are rated 750cfm a piece. But I've seen baby farts push more air.
