Thread: Rod Bearing Question???

Due to my brass fitting coming loose and running low oil in the motor, I think I f*&^% up my rod bearings, We fixed the fitting but it doesn't feel right at all, feels like a rod knock.

My question is, is there any way to find out what size rod bearings I need without pulling the oil pan?? Motor is a JDM with 53J 6R stamped on. Thanks in advance.

Correction. You could also snake a surgical camera down the dipstick tube and worm it until you found the numbers on the crank.

why would you need to seeing you will have to pull the pan to change them? or you could just order a complete set of every size... if you are worried about down time

Downtime is exactly what I'm worried about, but I'm gonna go ahead and pull the pan first.

just pulled the pan off, and the numbers are the ones on the left side of the crank right 60J40?? there are also numbers on the bearings themselves. which one do i need? thanks in advance...

the numbers are on the left side counter weight your gonna have to look up into a small space with a good flashlight. There are two sets of numbers actually, The bottom set looking up into the small space will be the main bearing numbers being there are five numbers, the top set looking up into there are the rod bearing numbers, there are 4 numbers. they read upside down from right to left. right being the #1 and left being the #4. Both sets read this way. use a bright flashlight to look at the far left counter weight, you will have to have the crank in a certain position to see them. you will need the counter weight to be just slightly pointed towards the front of the motor, just after being pointed straight down. in other words #1 at top dead center, then rotate the motor slightly counter clockwise while looking until you see them. they sit almost right up close to where that #1 main cap is. if you dont have a bright flashligh its a pita to see

so the numbrs on the actual bearing will not work???

ive never looked at the numbers on the bearing, if there is a 0 1 or 2 on the bearing then it should be the grade number, but i would still look at the crank to make sure
