Oil Cooler Options - Experience Only! Need to know what works.
I'm throwing a t25 setup onto my P11 soon, one of the last pieces of putting my kit together is finding a suitable oil cooler to get the most amount of life out of my turbo as possible. I already have the proper restrictor and I will be using -3an fittings/line to feed the turbo.

I have been looking at some of the B&M coolers on Summit racing, seems like a quality part and gets good feedback. I'm not one of those people who is willing to sacrifice price for quality, so I need to know what you guys are using, what's the stuff that works. I know you can only get oil so cool, but I would also be looking for something that can work with the -3an fittings I'm using, and something with decent surface area for a car that get's mostly highway usage.

Setrab and mocal make great oil coolers but they are not cheap. The gspec kit is a good kit that has everything you need.

here is a complete bolt on kit.

DET comes w/a water cooled oil cooler. Not sure how well it works. Better than nothing though I'd guess/hope.

Thanks, looking for something a little more specific towards running a cooler on the oil supply line to the turbo, I'd like to keep cool oil consistently feeding to the turbo at all times. So it will run from my oil distribution block on the back of the motor, to the oil cooler (that will be mounted to the front of the car, somewhere), then to the turbo itself. I have 2 -3an stainless lines to make it happen, so I am looking for a cooler somewhere around 11"x5" dimensions that is built well and will last a few years without me having to worry about it, especially on long highway trips.

Anyone else with some ideas?

You are much better off with the Gspec kit and cooling engine oil over the turbo oil feed for sure.

I'm clueless on oil coolers, but two (2) real mechanically smart guys have now mentioned GSpec.

One of the things I like about GregV is that he is really car savvy, has run both track vehicles and high-horsepower street cars very hard (you should see him drive, holy crap....), and even if he does not sell the item that best fits my needs/wants, he will point me in the right direction. Whether that part comes from him or another vendor, he is always honest and looking out for my best interests.

Earls oil coolers, reasonally priced from Summit or Jegs. Work excellent even for track use.

I appreciate the input, sounds like the consensus says to cool all of the oil which makes sense. Just figured that as long as I was using a JB turbo, I could feed it with a $30-$70 oil cooler to ensure that it gets a long life. Kind of like buying a good insure policy for something that is known to fail on these cars.

My exhaust manifold, exhaust housing, and exhaust dump pipe will all be ceramic coated, and I have an aftermarket radiator to keep everything extra cool. I'm going to keep researching this, but like what you guys have to say about gspec. Are any of you actually using Greg's oil cooler setup?

I know of a few track cars that run the gspec kit. Not sure if they are forum members or not. I had planned on using one with my current build but went way over budget so It got bumped for the time being. I will be adding one in the future for insurance at the track.
