Thread: Compressor Surge?

I know this is going to rustle some jimmies, but I've never been a fan of the HKS SSQV for similar reasons I've always hated the Greddy options. I've never seen/heard a car setup with one that didn't suffer from compressor surge. I don't know why that is though.

I do believe there are other options for the Greddy flange. And there are adapter flanges out there.

How and where do I go about browsing these? If all bov should essentially do the same thing just maybe sound different, what do I look for in choosing or is it a simple as just, "this one seems to work well for ppl, let's try it." I'm a blank slate the only thing I know is not to go with an Ebay knock off lol. I just want one that works, will fit, and sounds good

My friend has an actual hks ssqv never heard compression surge coming from his setup. I was even in his car yesterday gives out a nice sound and does its job properly at 9-10 psi

agreed, also if you are running low boost (<9psi ish) you can take the large spring out of the RS (common mod for evos) to reduce surge (but could leak at high boost). Ben after switching to the det with a deticated line and softening my spring I can drive for like 50+ miles and never hear any surge its only under very specific driving circumstances.

Greddy type S and RS work fine i been around turbo cars for a long time and they are adjustable and work perfectly fine this member obviously has no vacuum at the BOV

HKS SSQV working fine 12 psi i will shoot a video at 12 and at 18 psi so you can hear the beauty.

I'm running 10psi, I was reading some other forums about that mod, seen a lot of ppl that don't recommend it. Obviously there is always 2 sides to a coin but I dunno if I wanna go that route just yet

Just check your vac source. You have something plugged wrong. And adjust your bov. I have a few friends running knockoffs and they do what they are meant to do.

the 1 dsm is cheap and reliable. I used one on my last setup and still have it sitting around. you can usually pick up a 1 dsm for around $40. I am using a synapse bov right now and love it. it does not need to be adjusted. It can also be run open or diverted. they also sell a adapter flange so it bolts up to the greddy flange.

there's an easy fix for this..greddy bov's are very common for surge. take the allen heads off the top of the bov. There will be two springs remove the smaller one and reassemble with just the larger spring. tighten the adjuster all the way tight and you should be good to go..google the "greddy single spring mod"
