one end goes to the wastegate and the other end can come off either the compressor housing or it can come off intake manifold vacuum ports on the throttle body or something like that

Is it ball and spring? Assuming so, run an air line from the nipple thats in line with the adjust screw to a source before the throttle plate. There's a good one on the throttle body. Run the "t" nipple to your wastegate.

See the "t" nipple going to my wastegate. The other goes to the nipple on my TB before the throttle plate....therefore seeing no vacuum, ONLY boost!

Now here's another way to set it up, if you have an external wastegate, by utilizing the top nipple...I actually need some verification to ensure this is correct so don't take it for what it is just yet. Stick to the first picture till this one is verified one way or the other....

I may have the 2 wastegate hoses backwards. Based on my first picture can anyone verify my second one is correct?

That works but the mbc adjustment will be backwards ie the looser the more boost I have a tial gate and mbc and use it like your first pic using bottom port only. Rock solid boost no spiking and have about 10k on the setup. Also tial literature states that you can use the top port for mbc as shown but was designed for a duty cycle (electronic) type.
Fwiw here's mine

Hmm, I never heard that. That's the way my tuner suggested it be set up too and never mentioned that. But I'm with ya, I've never run it using the top nipple, been atmospheric for 4 years no problem.
