Thread: Qwik intake Ques

So I've been driving around a few days with no intake/filter (was waiting on parts and this is my daily driver), finally got my pipe in, still waiting on a 90 degree coupler to put the filter where the battery was, but I got my filter on right now next to the dizzy. I notice the blow off valve and turbo are not nearly as loud as they used to be. I assume this has to do with the more restricted air way letting less air able to get thru? My pipe is 2.5in which is the biggest I could run given my available space and my filter is one of those spectres from advanced auto. Would the only way to open it up to get the sound and more volume of air in, in this case to go to a bigger piping? I'm new to boost and I'll be honest, I miss the loudness of my bov, but I know I need to have the air filtered unless maybe if I'm on the track. Pictures to come, suggestions in the meantime?

Oh, wanted to ask where I could pick up some heat resistant tape for the intake as well?

Heres is the pics. First one, the pipe coming from the turbo inlet, 90 degrees bend up, filter on top. The filter will be moved over to where the battery sat soon as my coupler comes in. The second picture, just a top down view so you can see the open space where the filter will end up. I'm running blow through so I'm pretty sure I dont need any hoses going into the intake? I'm going to add a catch can right there in front of the valve cover next to the dizzy to go between that hose coming from the crank case vent to the valve cover vent. As far as I know with the blow through there's no point in running a hose from valve cover vent to the intake since it would be before the MAF so I just have it venting to the atmosphere. Don't suppose there would be a better way to run this intake to get almost as much air as I was without it there. As you can see 3in pipe will not fit as this 2.5in JUST fits and I miss the louder sound of my BOV i was getting when I had no intake/filter. I'm running a Type S BOV i believe (been awhile since I actually looked and my memory is shot lol)

If wooshing BOV action is what you're after; if the BOV has a fitting for a recirculation hose (i believe the greddy type S does), you could run it as a discharge hose to somewhere near the cowl on the driver's side. That should get you some wooshing action.

I believe that hose directly to the right of the filter in the second picture, like almost touching it, running out from the radiator (cuz the bov is on the intercooler) back (to the manifold) is the hose you speak of. Would I get power loss by discharging to atmosphere like that? Cuz all tho I'm new to turbo and still a sucker for the "Woosh", power is first and for most. I do however notice a slight decline in pickup going from no filter to intake/filter, which I guess makes sense based on limiting the air flow to the narrow pipe

That appears to be a vacuum source to make the BOV operate, i don't see any plumbing for the BOV discharge.

Ok, heres the BOV. I think maybe its a Type RS actually? I took the pictures from through front bumper. Its on the intercooler piping after the FMIC before the MAF. First is the hose I was talking about earlier, guess it is just the operating hose then huh? Second picture of the discharge side which I assume is discharging to the atmosphere. So I guess the question is, is it not as loud because the addition of the intake pipe/filter is narrowing out the air restricting it from pulling as much air in as it did without anything there which gave a greater build up of air pressure? And if so, i guess theres nothing simple I can do besides bigger piping (which wont fit) or changing up my boost (which im not prepared to change just yet) to get the sound(pressure) back? Its not a big deal, i just kinda miss it and it was brand new to me still lol =/

Indeed...seems to read about the same as it did (like somewhere in the ball park of -15 vacuum and im only running 10psi. Then the blow off valve releases its only like short squeaks instead of one long woooosh like it was before. Kinda sounds like its inside of a tube also, but i dont understand why that would change cause I didnt do anything with the BOV. All i can assume is there isn't as much air getting through.

When i think about it, it kinda sounds like the air might be coming back out through the turbo a little because its more of a chirping sound then a WHOOSH now and some kinda sounds like its inside a tube like i mentioned, like its coming back through the intake pipe....is that called Compressor surge? Maybe I have to adjust the BOV since i added the intake or something?
