Turbo NX Over heating
Hey guys my nx is an overheating master, no matter what i do she likes to run hot, this all began when the water pump took a crap, i replaced it and since then she would not stop over heating usually only overheats when going 65mph+ steady or when i throttle it hard consistently. I changed the water pump and thermostat no leaks and the problem would not stop so i replaced the head gasket with oem Nissan GTI-R head gasket (done this in the past for numerous DE's not a problem) and she still over heats compression is stronger than before and runs like a beauty just the over heating is annoying i have to run the heater all the time... i have the stock AC fan and a slim fan on the primary that seems real weak in comparison to my ac fan ( my stock primary fan melted from being so close the turbo. i do have a front mount intercooler and i think its restricting the nx's already limited airflow to the radiator

Did you keep A/C? Is the condenser still there? How about heat wrapping pipes and/or using the stock heat shields?

Just from looking at the front of the NX, it seems it wasn't designed very well for airflow to the radiator. There's no real opening for air to enter the radiator except under the bumper from what I remember. I know there are some guys who will drill large holes into the front grill to help with cooling the radiator down. I would assume that makes a pretty decent difference. Perhaps you could also invest in a larger radiator which will also help. Other than that, general things like making sure the air is bled from the cooling system I'd suggest.

it might be your waterpump cavitating. SR20s have a problem in the higher RPM range the water pump will cavitate. using an underdrive pulley on the waterpump seems to help, just run a shorter belt and get some water wetter.

does it overheat even w/AC off?

Remove the turbo?

THe NX radiator is larger than the SE-R radiator and should be cooling it fine if everything else is ok.

What temps are you getting up to?

Id would of upgrade the radiator, and cut holes in the bumper for more air....
A 17psi radiator cap would be nice as well.
but i can imagine that also removing the radiator and washing the fins of it and the condenser could help as well.

BTW how do you know its overheating... spitting/boiling coolant, aftermarket temp gauge?

When you installed the gti-r motor did you put the gauge sensor from your original motor?the one with the single prong.do you have some type of mesh grill I front of the Intercooler?

I've done quite a bit of swaps never had an issue other than this nx the temp sensor is from my usdm motor and works fine i've checked temps with heat gun the needle will start climbing up to about 3/4 and i have to put the heater on full blast, if i do not put the heater on i can feel performance go down the engine feels laggy and it will boil from reservoir
