Thread: this is crazy, **READ** if you have a PTE turbo

Assuming the housing contains the wheel and it doesn't kill you...

My experience with PTE is not so grand. After mine seized, I was told by a tuner that he has seen a lot of Precision journaled turbo's fail, and usually they would be rebuilt with Garret CHRA's. Well mine failed with a Garret CHRA, now blame could be pointed at me for not rebuilding it right.

New PTE CHRA's that should be better then previous ones, I didn't use this guy because it's oil only cooled.


Shame that I paid extra for the billet wheel that got eaten .

Me and most of my boys run them with good results and some off those guys are making well over 1000hp. I've never seen one do that personally so I'll stick to what I know.

I have read a ton of horror stories about the precision turbos, ranging in size blowing up. All have said it was a defect in the shaft. They would bend and seize, eat the wheels, completely break the wheels off and do total damage to the turbo. The bb turbos seem to be just fine.

One of the main reasons I went with the BW 67mm vs the 6768 journal bearing turbo I was going to run. I wanted longevity from something I was paying 1200 bucks for. I was debating on getting the bb but the bb price was rediculously more. Almost 1800 bucks for the bb 6768.

I like the BW and they are reliable and I havent even begun to push into the limits of it yet.
