SR20VE+T. Turbo advice
Hi guys

I am contemplating boosting my stock VE right now. But I am new to the turbo game and would like to know right off the bat what would be the best turbo for my application. Is it really necessary to buy an expensive GT28XXR turbo or is there something budget friendly that will suffice? I've read about socalled "g18" turbos?

Another option is to simply take a manifold and factory T25/T28 from a DET and bolt it on.

I'm looking for reliability, but at the same time to be at least faster than a DET boosting say 0.9 on the stock turbo.

I have some 370cc injectors from a DET available.

ditch the 370cc. get the s15 444 or some 550. the 18g would be good for you since you can use the stock manifold and downpipe with it.

What are your power goals?
I would definitely upgrade your injectors if you ever plan on turning up the boost. 52lb or 72lb would be most applicable for mild boosted applications.
2871r's are awesome turbos, you get what you pay for. My favorite for its class.
18g's are a good choice for budget builds as some of us don't have 800 bucks to spend on a used, or new turbo.
Plan on upgrading your Ecu to a calum or jk tuning etc. if you haven't already done so.
If you want to keep it simple and cheap- a gtir or avenier manifold + t28 should put you right where you want to be.

T28 will be fine. I would invest in a meth kit if I were in your shoes. Its cheap insurance and will help that bottom end last. Look for larger injectors. 370's will not cut it. You can get a set of Mototron 60lb injectors and run them at 4 bar. They were great on my old sc61 setup and can be had cheap.

Thanks for the info guys. If you're saying the 18g turbo will bolt right up to the stock manifold etc then that sounds like the way to go for me. Question is, where to buy the 18g? I see so many different ones on ebay for example. Most look like chinese copies though,.

I'm not looking for massive power, especially since this is going on a stock bottom end VE. And I dont' want to break tranny's either.

Should I get a thicker head gasket for reliability or not really?

I think I can get my hands on some 550cc subaru injectors yes.
