Any boosted guys have this issue?
I got up to a gas station today and noticed my alternator (brake/battery) lights came on. I just replaced the unit with an Auto Zone reman. alternator about a week ago. I went ahead and removed the A/C system while I was at it. Today I look down near the alternator to see if the belt was slipping but it wasn't. Here is what I noticed:

The crank pulley was wobbling side to side looking very loose.

I also noticed the passenger mount screws worked their way loose.

The car has prothane mounts all around so I don't know if this could of caused vibration issues bad enough to get screws loose. I never had this issue when I was all motor. Has this happend to anyone? I am going to try and pull the alternator tomorrow and get another. I will tighten up the crank as well. Gotta go pull the screws for the mount from my parts car. Hopefully this will help. Just curious if this has happend to anyone. This kind of scared the shit out of me.

Never happened to me.

I did happen to tighten the belt too tight which caused it to shred off. My battery light came on and when I checked under the hood...I had no belt.

Are you sure the crank pully is loose? Maybe it is coming apart. The rubber dampner can be falling apart. They tend to crack.

As for the motor mount just make sure you tighten the hell out of it.

I am not too familiar with the crank pulley. So as far as when it comes to removing it and such I am a noob.

I am thinking (hoping) it is loose because as the car sat at idle, I noticed it moving side to side. I didn't get to take a good look because of the crazy northeast snow and had to run to the garage to help finish up my friends avenir.

Mind sharing on how I would have to replace the dampner?

Lol...

Ahh, I sometimes hate classics. Gotta get a closer look tomorrow. Gunna just have to dig it out of the foot of snow we got today. Joy!

When my NX had a really rough idle, it would back bolts out. I backed out the passenger side motor mount bolt, along with several others.

I'd first check to make sure your crank pulley bolt is torqued down properly. If thats snug, then try to find a replacement pulley damper. As SE-Rican said its two pieces held together by rubber, which can rot. I've seen them split into two pieces before!

Also, I've had terrible luck w/ autozone's alternators. I went thru 3 or 4 in a week.

when you re tighten your bolts for the mounts use threadlocker the red stuff...

Thanks for the info guys. My car lately has been idleing rough due to not recirculating (waiting on intake pipe) so it feels very rough. Also it would hesitate on highway and would jerk hard at half throttle so maybe that took its toll on it. Hopefully tomorrow goes good.

I had a 93 that once did this, the harmonic balancer split apart. Looks like its time for underdrive setup!
