Thread: Help with compression numbers

torque them down in three steps and use assembly lube on the nuts. Your final torque should be between 80-85lbft. Also make sure to use the factory torque sequence.

This is due to better material (ARP2000) used and the type of lube used. My BRAND NEW freshly machined ARP studs which were literally made the month I put them in(about 2 months ago) said 90 ft lbs.

Regardless of what other people say, I'd go with what the manufacturer says. Very strange that the card you have from Mazworx says to only torque down to 68 ft lbs. I'd contact them and tell them to change this or correc their mistake or find out why they only suggest 68.

I've contacted Mazworx and they said 68 but after what I'm reading I'm going to do 85. I'll let you know what happens. I bought a decent compression gauge so I'll start with re torque and check then wet test and I may have to replace the gasket (hopefully not) then If there's still a problem a leakdown test. I did get a valve job but the shop I used is very well known and appeared to do great work. So I'll keep you guys posted thanks again for all the response.

Thats funny since the ge head studs which are made of 8740 use that as the final torque spec. The mazworx are arp 2000 which should require a higher torque spec due to the material used.

Get on that torquing.

Ya, what's up with that?? Perhaps a thread in the Mazworx sub-section is in order to get the bottom of the 68 ft lb recommendation.

hmm I have the mazworx studs and followed their torquing guide, I'll have to do a compression check and see where I'm at as well

Double checked when I got home and my card said final torque of 65ft lb. I torqued everything down to 85 and took a break to eat. I'll keep y'all posted.
