No it's not, it's a valid way to check what's going on in your combustion chamber. I've ran spark plugs for thousands of miles, when there is no detonation there are no particles. While being turbo it's a lot easier to get detonation, thus I started seeing the particles on the plugs. My goal is to have clean spark plugs for thousands of miles again after I'm done with my tune.

I've seen knock at even 10 afr, it all depends on your timing, intake air temp, and engine temperature. That JWT tune might be fine on a cold day, but as soon as it gets warm knock starts showing up.

What kind of boost controller do you have? I had a similar problem with the new profect B boost controller. I had the solenoid mounted on the firewall and that thing ticks very loud. Drove me crazy trying to find out what was making that noise. I put back in the old style controller and never heard it again.

Very true, my aem controlled solenoid and when i had my aem truboost both were very loud when they start activating. Especially since I have no firewall matting, carpet or anything else under the dash to soften the sound.

That's a great piece of advice, my friend with an aem makes so much noise there is no way I would put up with it.
