turbo woes...
Ok, I'm fed up with this damn thing... It's gone through two sets of pistons from melting the number two and three pistons and detonating in all 4.

The car runs pig rich all the time, and cuts out above 6000 rpms. It rarely wants to idle properly and is a bitch to drive because it runs so rich.

I don't know what is causing this.

SR20DE high port in a B13.
T25
370cc injectors
N60 MAF
Calum Basic tuned for my setup, but 10:1 CR (I thought it was a 10:1 JDM engine before i got the ECU)

I don't know if its a sensor or not, though I doubt it. I can't think of which sensor would cause it to run this rich.

Maybe its the tune? Can anybody burn a set of chips with a DE+T tune to my setup above? I got $20 shipped on the chips if so.

Thanks in advance.

how much boost are you trying to run? A 10.1 program wouldn't have a lot of timing it for turbo. so on your 9.5 it shouldn't detonate. Do you have a wideband in the car to monitor your A/F?

nope he doesn't

At this point I would recommend that he sell his calum real time and pay JWT for a tune. He can't invest in a chip burner or a wideband why bother. If your cranking the boost up and leaning out your going to kill your pistons.

stock wastegate 7 psi. It's a Calum Basic, not a real time. It's something that's making it run ridiculously rich. All you smell is raw fuel from the exhaust. It runs hard with no problems from 2000-6000, but hesitates between shifts and wants to cut out while cruising if i'm not heavy into the throttle. And I honestly have no desire to invest in a JWT and have to ship out my ECU and pay a bunch of money anytime I change something. If it ends up being the ECU than I'll probably sell it and get a JK setup.

Another thing about my problem, is that it seems to do it intermittently above 6000. It's a pretty constant shitty idle and running really rich. It only sometimes acts up in high rpms.

And i'm not turning up the boost either. I really have no intentions of turning up the boost.

Horrible boost and/or vac leak somewhere? I didnt have problems with my tunes unless i had a leak somewhere causing the issue.

Dirty maf, try cleaning it with maf cleaner. Ive had a film of oil get on the hotwire and cause issues. Cleaned the maf and everything ran much smoother.

Definitely need a wideband dude. I dont do any more turbo setups without having a wideband. Just not worth risking the motor when you could have bought a $170 aem wideband and know for sure whats happening.

Yeah, I've cleaned the MAF a bunch of times and it seems to do better, briefly, but then goes right back to it. I'm messing with the MAF right now. I suppose I'll pull it out and clean it real quick.

What do you use to tune, Ashton?

And i'm not sure if it's a vaccum leak, either. It'll run fine and pull good vacuum but then loads up with fuel and drops idle and vacuum.

I'd just buy the JK then. burning chips over and over is a huge pain. Do you have nissan data scan? someway to diagnose your sensors. whats your vacuum at idle like? less that 12inches? 18-20inches?

I was using a calum basic that i messed with some areas of the tune in the off boost areas to get better mileage out of it. In boost was perfect. I had problems with hesitation from about 3000-5500 being pig rich, a/f was all over the place. Above 5500 to redline was fine. Come to find out the viton o-ring on my 50mm bov was not seated right and had a huge boost leak.

I ran my maf in blowthrough config as well so it didnt affect my idle and stuff. If your running draw through maf and have a leak somewhere your car will run crappy like that all the time. Also check and see if your bov is open especially if your draw through and dont have it recirculated.

Again ive never had problems with Calums tunes. I over boosted the t2 turbos and caused problems but always ran like a raped ape with no detonation problems when i would keep the boost under 12 lbs. I highly doubt its the tune.

Make sure your maf has good grounds. If you havent ran a new ground to the intake manifold from the maf ground i suggest doing so.

18-20 inches vacuum till it starts basically flooding itself.

I'm running blow through. I regrounded both ground wires to the manifold.

I just cleaned the maf and it didnt do anything at first, but seemed to run fine afterward. I took a video but can't upload it right now. The car is actually running great right now... Maybe I'll just have to keep a can of MAF cleaner in my car and check it often lol. I'll see if the problem persists...
