Ringland Weakness
So.... I am just curious to know if the SR20DET piston ringlands are as weak as the SR20DE ringlands. I have an Avenir motor that I'm dropping a VE head on and just want to know what the weakpoint is going to be with me boosting it to say 20-25psi (with meth injection) with a Precision 6262 turbo. I'm on an Extremely tight, non-existence budget and wanna get this car done before summer.

X2 you will be fine. Your running the meth injection.

who said the DE rings are weak? IIRC the RR and VE that are weak.

Weak is a relative term. Yea your weak point will be your ring lands but the de should be just as strong. If your tuning it right along w meth you should be good.

Don't quote me on this but when I was doing my research I believe I read somewhere that the ringlands are the weak point I believe ashton said that. By the way I'm working again finally did you find a solution with that fuel rail I sold you?

I'm not running a de I'm running an avenir det.

Morgan and everone else thanks for the speedy response. Hey morgan did you ever finish the tubo install on that NX2000?

The ring lands will be your weak point if you have detonation. Our cast pistons do not like detonation, Ive seen some melt holes before cracking ringlands and some that didnt have much damage at all to the piston but cracked the lands. It all depends on the severity and when in the stroke its occuring.

I believe the det and de pistons have the same size land between the top and second ring which is usually what cracks and breaks. Keep detonation away and you can make plenty of power on stock pistons. Ive done it personally. Forged pistons will take abuse from detonation much better and ive yet to see forged pistons crack ring lands. Ive seen them have pitting on them from detonation but thats it.

Think of detonation as like taking a hammer and slamming it against the top of the piston as its coming up. Now take that force and put it onto the top ring. Thats where you break lands from.

Very good information man thanks a lot dude. Now all I have to worry about is the VE valves making contact with the det pistons lol. What's a good rev limit to set this thing at? 8000rpm???

You using stock VE cams im assuming? At least I hope you are or you might have issues with p2v contact. If using stock cams 8k the most if using stock springs and retainers.
