Jc's turbo build
hello guys, i used to have a b14 a couple of years ago and then got an egg that i never got running so i bought a p11 because i needed a car and it was priced to sell, 950 how can i go wrong with no rust, big plus in new england. so i junked the nx, stayed with the p11 and now im starting to build a highport i picked up for cheap. im going turbo and im looking for 300-500 whp but will be happy with 400ish or even high 3, i want this to be a budget build. i dont have a budget and im not worry if i dont finish this year with it. so i lets begin...

platform is highport completly stock with 72k on it

plans/parts:
wiseco pistons 8:5:1 (have)
eagle rods (have)
protec top mount log manifold w/ external gate (have)
acl main, rod, thrust
bc springs and retainers or equivilant
s4 or even s3 cams
tial knockoff gate
cometic hg
arp head and main bolts and possible rod bolts
ve oil pump
rr hlva
rocker arm stoppers
underdrive pulleys

now for the turbo im still undecided, these are my options
sc61
gt3071r
gt2871r
hx35
or anything else that will bring me to my goal without breaking the bank

everyone keeps on telling me to run a 6262 but the manifold has slight defect and it would require a lot a bit of grinding of the block and what not but its possible if i want to go thru the trouble. so what do you guys think

change of plans
sr20vet pistons
sc61
custom manifold
ve block
5hole acl, rods and thrust
eagle rods
arp head bolts
vet metal headgasket
n1 cams coming soon
supertech 100lbs springs
gtir main bolts

that's the new setup

Ditch those rocker arm stoppers.
Also rethink that wastegate?

I would do a GT2871R and call it a day. But then again, I would never go larger than a GT2871R on these FWD chassis, so take that for what it is. If you want to go bigger, that's cool.

I would pick up a real tial if I run into one at a must have price but will keep it in mind

what flange is on your protech manifold? t3? the gt2871 and gt3071 are t2 flanged so that might be a factor to consider. Other wise I would suggest going with the GT2871R (disco potato) its good for 400 hp easy and will spool quickly. Also I've heard the S4 cams are #1 for turbo DEs

Ditch the Cometic gasket, ditch the arp main studs and head studs. Get GTIR main bolts from GregV, Get Mazworx headstuds, and either use an OEM VET gasket or get a better gasket such as Cosworth (one of my favorite for the de/det motors) Cometic gaskets suck, they are old school design and they really do suck.

Eagle rods come with ARP2000 bolts.

Other than that the rest looks good and yes ditch the rocker arm stoppers. You dont need them and not worth the damage they can cause.

Don't scare the guy saying the Cometic head gasket sucks. We have used them for years with no problems.

I am running a Cometic on my motor.

lol, Good luck with that Rob.

Seen too many disasters using a cometic with the old arp headstuds. Its not all the gaskets fault but i will say with a better gasket the issues wouldnt have happened. Its just a bad combo.

Lets see a cometic is about 90-100 bucks a VET oem gasket is about 80 and is by far superior to the cometic in every way. Better sealing around the coolant and oil channels and a much better firing ring around the cylinders. Same goes with the Cosworth gasket, by far a superior gasket to the cometic.

Seen several times threads pulled from blocks using the ARP studs.

pretty sure you can get either of those garretts with a t3 flange also. and the disco potato = 2860r
