Remote Mount Turbos
Curious if anyone in the SR20 community has done a Remote Mount or Rear Mount Turbo setup?

I know our engine bays are cramped and tiny but I dont think anyone has had to resort to that. lol. Plus I dont think it would be very effective all the way back there. lol

No offense but that would be retarded to try for many many reasons.

many have done it with pretty good results; although with bigger engines.

Only reason to do it IMO is if you are hustling with money on the line?

I don't think anyone has ever done it on an SR20 and talked about it.

There is a company that sells complete kits for rear mount turbos.

A coworker did this on his camaro.

And yes i know they are popular on muscle cars. More displacement is how they work well. Good luck spooling anything of a decent size with it in back with our little 2L motor.

Bads:

Loss of exhaust velocity and energy due to cooling through the exhaust.
Length of piping will be extremely log again hindering spool
Requires an electric oil pump to either feed oil through the turbo with its own sump and cooler or to use as a return back to the engine. Again making more trouble than its worth.

I could go on and on on why its a stupid idea for our cars. Ive seen it work great on vettes, camaros, and vipers that have nowhere else to put a turbo in those bays. lol.

I know STS makes kits for these on many cars, including the 350z's and G35s etc.

A lot of people argue how it won't work and will be laggy but the guys who have actually done this usually have nothing but good things to say about it.
