Yeah, it doesn't feel like the other gears, the others are solid and click in fairly firmly, but 2nd just doesn't click in (by feel or sound)

Time to open the case and check the gear selector.

I'm wondering if it could have something to do with the b&m short throw, or with distance, I'm wondering if it might be possible that something needs to be adjusted, so that the shift linkage travels further, or the shifter sits in a different position. Cortrim....I guess opening up the case is a last resort for me, transmissions intimidate me, and I wouldn't have the slightest clue what I'm looking for...

Coheed did a great write up on how to swap the gear stacks on a p11/b15 tranny. I used that write up when I opened the case. Once the case is open you can shift through the gears while looking at the selector and see whats going on. I know if the oil guides pop out of the slots they sit in they will cause issues with the gear selector.

I took my b15 box apart to repair a rounded out fill hole plug once and when i put it back up it would not go into 2nd..it would shift very easily into all other gears except 2nd, if it does feel like its in 2nd as soon as i start releasing the clutch it pops out and starts grinding. I took it down and apart and found that there are little balls and springs that keeps the gear selected. One of the springs broke and the ball fell out causing the whole problem. Found the pieces and put them back in and it worked like a charm..

Spoogy, that sounds like exactly what my trans is doing. Where did u get a new spring and ball from for it? How long did it take you to repair?

I had a friend help me (I call him the muscle), we pulled the gearbox out took it apart, I found the ball and spring inside the box, the spring was broken a few coils from the end, I called around local parts store and even nissan dealer but they couldnt get me the spring so I smooth out the edges on both pieces of the broken spring and stacked them one behind the other and it worked..took us a few hours to take it down and back up and running...I hope its an easy fix for you man..

Strange not 2nd but 4th works, you'd think both would bind if it were a mount issue.

This may sound funny, but pop the hood and get someone to shift gears with the car off. if the engine is moving, that's an easy way to tell the rear mount is kaffed.
