Well the problems were not hg specific. The one problem I did have is that I pinched the corner of the gasket when I had to put the oilpump on after I torqued down the head.

Why not deck the block and head? Not that expensive.

For a non-turbo engine I'd probably say do whatever, but since it'll see boost I think you should deck it.

Dont use copper spray, nasty stuff and will only cause more problems than its good for.

Get a VET gasket, have the head decked and clean the surface of the block with a scraper and cleaner really well. Do a final clean with some brake cleaner to get it dry and rid of oil residue and take off any other crap left on there.

Install and be done with it. Its really no harder than that. You dont even need to pull the motor to do that job either. You can do the entire job with the motor still in the car.

Cometic gaskets suck btw, there is a reason why they are soo cheap. lol. A VET gasket is a Billion times better than a cometic, any other metal gasket will own a Cometic gasket any day. The cometic is an old design and doesnt have near the technology and design in it that the vet gasket, cosworth gasket, PE (Mazworx) gasket and so on have.

Again,

You dont need to pull the engine to install the oil pump/front cover. It is pretty simple to do with it in the car.

Yes its easier out of the car but its not hard in the car either.
