every system in this car is crazy reliable, cooling, fuelling, etc...

the only thing I didnt like (been watching it too) was his intercooler placement... Im not sure how much cool air will be hitting it... the bodykit has a great big opening for the IC but he tucked it away to get a shorter piping route...

In time attack, its all about response and shorter piping = better response (as you mentioned).

With nothing else blocking the intercooler, I am pretty sure he is getting more than sufficient airflow. Couple this with the core size and surface area, there is plenty of area for the heat to dissipate (or for heat transfer to occur between the working fluid and its medium) and for the intercooler to do a better than normal job.

Also, to me, he is seemingly trying to keep things as one-piece-removable, shortening the time for service barring the unforseen incident

If you have ever seen the the moon sized rocks a full fledged slick can pick up, and with how much force and distance it can be thrown, you will know, there is a very good chance a rock could go right through both intercooler and radiator. So again, placing things as far away from the danger zone as possible helps in the overall scheme of things.


The picture below will help to show, there is more than enough exposed surface area for the intercooler to do its job

Hot of the presses STR8180 throws down 744.6 rwhp out of his 180sx with the VVL head. 32psi on E85 6262.

weight distribution aswell would be a big reason for it being soo far back
