We always use and recommend Royal Purple Break-in oil for breaking in newly built engines. Like several have said, you want to use something with high zinc in it for the initial break-in then any synthetic oil after that. We normally use Valvoline VR1

How long do you recommend for break in?

What is the break in procedure you guys use?

I used Valvoline conventional 10w-30 with comp cams break in additive. Motor is broken in with 500 miles. Where do you guys buy your Valvoline VR1 oil? Do you get the conventional or synthetic?

I'm using Amsoil break-in oil for 500 miles, then switching to VR1 conventional for 1500 miles then idk after that..some sort of synthetic for my everyday oil.

Yes, 1 bottle of comp cams break-in additive.

I ordered some VR1 synthetic 20w-50 off amazon. 6 quarts for 51 bucks. Can't wait to get on it. :]
