Thread: cooling system: heater lines

Hey,

Assembling a turbo sr20 motor and I live in Jamaica. My last setup the heater lines were recirculated.

Can I just seal the goose neck (adapter with fan switch and temp sensor) or do I have to recirculate it?

Do you have a picture of the goose neck adapter you refer to? All that you really need is a pipe that goes from the radiator to the coolant intake on the head, with the temp sensor switch that the motor sees. Then the other sensor if you want your coolant gauge to work.

If you don't replace the dual pipe with just one I would keep the 2 inch pipe and the 1inch pipe both open and just close off the smaller pipes that come off of them. If you block the 1 inch pipe and don't move the temp sensor you are going to have problems with sensor not getting a proper reading.

Are you running any coolant into the motor? Or are trying to run one line through reducer tube with that sensor? Either way I would rethink what you are doing, or you might be facing leaks and or an overheating motor, and malfunctioning sensors.

My suggestion is to find some other metal that the hottest coolant sees drill and tap that for your sensor, and if it is thin weld or even solder a nut as a fitting. Then swap your oil filter housing for one that doesn't need the coolant lines. Then make some kind of "Y" pipe to split the main coolant feed up right before the metal fitting to distribute the coolant to the sensors evenly.

well that picture is from a 510 build i found on the net... i dont think i would do that type of connections because it really does seem unreliable... but the compactness of the setup is what im looking for...

also its a rwd block use terms i can understand...

1) neck off the sensor block
2) nipple off the sensor block
3) neck off water pump
4) neck off thermostat housing

how would you connect them without causing any problems?

Ok so you are talking RWD, I am not going to be much help then. Also why that pic was throwing me for a loop.

To try and answer your questions...

Some FWD AWD SRs have a "oil cooler" that basically just routes the coolant through an oversized oil filter housing. Others don't have this at all and they can be swapped out.

On the FWD AWD SRs the coolant system uses a venturi thing to change the speed of the coolant in different parts to get coolant into the heater core, oil cooler and so on. It's kind of a PITA to re route, it's better just to make a new one from some 1.5in aluminum tube from ebay. Then just reuse the housing that mounts to the block. The only sensor "needed" is one like the yellow one the coolant temp sensor that goes to the ecu. Then the connector blade right next to it if you want the factory coolant gauge to work.
