it's grounded throught the bracketry. the lil wire is classic japanese redundant grounds. just for extra ins strait from nissan :-)

You can buy any fwd sr20 alternator and it will work just fine. You dont need a model like that one. The normal ones are much easier to access the two wire plug as its right on the top side of the alternator. Just get a new alt and be done if that one is not working.

but my question was, is their supposed to be a ground where i highlighted in the picture? because in that cause the problem would be solved.

Yes, thats where the ground wire goes. However it wont make the alt not work not having it as the casing is still grounded through the block. Its just an added ground wire going to the passenger side frame rail. The black wire shoved into that hole needs to have an eyelet crimped on and its an m6 bolt that goes into that hole.

so it doesn't matter what year car the alternator is from obdI and obdII are the same?

yes. only thing that changes on the different alt's are the b+ stud size. and how many amps it puts out.
