If the crank is in good shape meaning no damage to the journals there is no reason to have them measured and sized bearings installed. Just get some ACL race standard size bearings and be done. As for the cylinder walls, if they need a bore and hone then you will need to get oversize pistons. If the wall just needs to be honed then you can use the stock size pistons and rings. Rings can be checked for ring end gaps to make sure they are still within spec and if so done, if they need to be filed then thats easy as well. But ive yet to find a set of rings from any of my builds whether it be with oem parts or aftermarket CP pistons, if the piston to wall clearance is done properly by the machine shop during the bore and hone process the rings provided are already sized for the pistons. And depending on what type of engine its going to be determins what you need to set your ring gap to. Boosted engines usually use a slightly larger gap while n/a motors use a tight ring gap.

Other than that it is not that hard to build one of these motors properly and have it last a long time as long as you have someone that knows what he is doing and the guy your describing knows jack.

it was actually p10det (mike from DE) but he was a bit lit...& is always trying to do things better...even tho i kept telling him that all that stuff should be fine, he was like...are you sure, "i would do ...this & this & this" etc..

i got the block off of Keith (tsuru)

Im just gauging some info...

anyone know a place for reasonably prices piston/rods/rings?

If your looking for aftermarket stuff then poorboysparts on ebay. Tell him roche0823 sent you. You wont get a better deal on a piston rod combo from anywhere else, guranteed. If your looking at aftermarket then cp pistons and eagle rod combo from them ftw.

Bearings you can get the acl race bearings off ebay, a couple companies including mazworx sells them on ebay. Just get the standard size and you will be fine.

ok few small questions.

I have somone that has a VE overhaul kit for sale.

being that im going to use a VE block, a DE head & DET internals, could i use EVERYTHING in the VE overhual kit? (oil pump)

I do have a spare low milage DE, Id like to not buy stuff that i could possibly already have (oil pump, water pump, front cover etc...)

would i have any issue running de "Hardware" WP, Oil Pump., front cover, pullies, etcc on a VE block?

No you wouldnt have any issues. If you running the de head then all you have to do is tap the oil port on the ve block for the VVL and install a plug. The hole is already almost the perfect size to be tapped but you want to have a small step in there for the plug to stop against. So drill out the hole with the proper drill bit for a 1/8 npt tap, only drill down maybe 1/4-3/8" at the most, tap the hole and install a 1/8th npt plug using some red loctite to help seal it and keep it tight in the hole.

Other than that you can use whatever oil pump/drive spacer/pulley combo you want. Just make sure that they are all from a de or ve depending on which way you go. The ve pump drive is slightly longer to accomidate the larger ve oil pump. Again just make sure everything is from either a de or from a ve. Pretty simple.
