Finally a plan that I can agree on. Keep it simple! These are setups that are tried and true and with the new tuning available, they will kick more ass than they used to. Watch the numbers of an 18g avenier setup with enough fuel and a tunable ecu, it will surprise a lot of people

Vadim- Don't take this the wrong way but would you rather drive the car and enjoy it or watch it sit for long periods of time just to say that you built a part that while important and is a cool bragging right it just stops you from doing what most people really love to do with these cars, which is drive them. I understand and respect your desire to learn, I really do. The difference between you and I is that I know my limits and leave the stuff that is better left to the pros, well, left to the pros. I work in the auto industry and have for the last 10 years. I leave the stuff that important, finicky and time consuming that is absolutely frustrating even when you do it everyday. Point is, if there is an off the shelf, easy setup with good numbers that could be all finished in a weekend vs. an all out project that may have questionable results. Once again, not a personal insult against Vadim, but the first thing that any one builds is never gonna be their best. If there isn't an off the shelf option than I am all for fabricating parts but unless you are a full time fabricator or don't like to like to drive your car all that much, then more times than most you will be frustrated. Waiting to drive that car that you should be able to instead of the Altima or Camry, LOL!. I went way off topic but the main point of this is........ K.I.S.S. You will have great results. You guys will be so surprised how a simple setup on a stock ve can whoop most street cars ass for not a shit ton of your money and be broke less than the high dollar builds because of how complicated they car become. If you are building a street car, do that.... build a damn street car that you can actually drive and enjoy!

You might have to bring it down with the Avenir manifold . Though I'll see if I can score an external gated avenir mani again.

That means I have to create a custom J pipe, though that is a lot easier to weld then a whole turbo manifold.

Though welding a turbo manifold is a hard and somewhat fun task, I do think I want something that wont crack overtime.

18g turbo is oil only cooled right?

Yeah keeping it simple is the hard part. I tried to keep it simple but other hurdles came up, went complex, even more hurdles came up

I agree with you, I would rather be driving the car boosted right now then suffering through NA slowness... But she is drivable right now as is which is comforting.

If I could buy a prebuilt top mount mani for $500 I would in a heart beat. I just missed an equal length one that was for sale on the forum last week and I'm a bit mad . I'm to the point where I'm willing to make a custom front motor mount (since I can weld that in 5 minutes as compared to days with manifold).

The main show stopper right now would be if the turbo is water cooled or not, We'll see if Keo's is. Then next thing is finding a buyer for my current turbo...

Also do you think the 18G turbo can handle 8k rpm? :-D

Most 18g's are just oil cooled and they will handle that little wussy abuse you are going to put on that turbo with the mild boost that you are going to run... Just run a turbo timer to prevent oil coking and you won't miss the damn water cooling. Besides, it is less work to hook up. You won't win any ohh's and ahh's at the car shows but on the street and at the track people will for sure ask you what turbo you are running, a gt30 & 2871r holset, etc.... It is a good feeling to know that you spent less on your turbo than they did on their trick intake pipe, lol. Especially when they see your tail lights. With the tuning options out now, you can really take make these turbos kick ass with the anti lag, 2 step and no lift shits all with out a stand alone.

yeah mine was only oil cooled, i ran it 3 years without a blow off valve and it took it like a champ, after a while it developed some shaft play (would have been prevented if i used a blow off valve) but still boosted flawlessly and never once spat out an ounce of oil! the reason i speak so highly of this turbo is because before my 18g i had gone through 4 t25/8 turbos that all blew oil seals on me (using the correct restrictor) that and the measly t25 couldnt pull my g20 no matter how much boost it felt dead and it was getting frustrating, i always wanted to know if the 18g could fit but no one on the forum tried it at the time. they are hard to come by on their own but the second i found one local i ran like a mad man to get it.

after that turbo and my experiences with my holset, i dont want to ever see another garrett based turbo again, my freind brought his 3071r to me brand new out the box asking me why its not spinning, he bought the turbo 2 years ago and it was sitting while he collected other parts for his project. i did my best to try loosing it up and told him he needs to bring it to a turbo repair shop. it was deemed useless so he had to fork over another arm and legg for a replacement unit.

18G it is, getting Keo's old turbo.

As for manifolds, does it clear the block with Avenir? I'm starting to look for a GTIR simply because it has a little more clearance and flows a little better. But if Avenir is not that much wore might just stick to that...

Giving up on the manifold huh vadim? I told you it was more work and required some good welding skills to pull it off properly. I was in way over my head when I tried mine. My gotta do it myself got in the way of proper thinking.

The 18g is a great turbo. JohnnyWangwang used that turbo with great success, gtir manifold modified with external gate and 18g. Made 330+whp on 15-17 lbs i believe. His car pulled pretty well and great response. That and the fact you can get them cheap really helps.
