its 85w140 btw, Valvoline conventional in a white bottle with the white/blue/red valvoline label. I think you can get it in Synthetic or Synthetic Blend but the conventional is just fine.

Again yes over a long period of time and use, it "might" put some wear on the syncros. But again who cares really. If you have to replace a trans 10 years down the road or replace cyncros. Again not a big deal and they are making a bigger deal out of it than it really is.

Just use it, lol.

I did quite a bit more research on the subject, and it´s a fact that it does corroed metals do to suplhur EP contents on the gl5 type stuff... but there´s compatible stuff on the market, synthetic and sulphur free and etc...

In fact of all the reading i´ve yet to see 1 gearbox failing directly related to gl5 oil, i´ve read 2 cases(vw´s) that found smal particles, yellowish, like dust on the oil, but that gearbox didn´t fail...

So it´s true but not worrying it seems, but i will be playing it safe and try to find syncro compatible stuff... i found motul motylgear, chevron delo synthetic and redline oil synthetic gear oil to be gl4 aproved...

Oil is in fact a very complicated subject... and i´m glad this doubt arised, it´s been pretty interesting research...

like the above guy said, there are gl-5 oils that are yellow metal safe. Just look into it and chose a heavy weight oil that is if it concerns you.

From the Valvoline specs their 85w140 oils are GL-4 and GL-5 certified, so should be good to use in both: http://www.valvoline.com/pdf/high_performance_gear.pdf

Now even if it takes 10 years, like Ashton mentioned, to eat the syncros, it's not a big problem. You probably will be replacing the trans much sooner from all the boosting fun

What do you guys say about the Durabland, it looks to be slightly better and is GL-4 certified too: http://www.valvoline.com/pdf/durablend_gear.pdf

I havent seen the durablend 85w140 in the store yet.

The synthetic blend might make for a little less drag inside the trans while still providing reletively the same protection but Im probably gonna stick with the non synthetic blend. Who knows unless the new local Autozone where im living now has the durablend i might give it a try.

Durabland is the only synthetic one that is GL4. I would get the Fully synthetic but it's GL5 only.

Anyway the dino one is $6.99/qt at my local auto stores. Amazon has the 5qt one for $23 plus free amazon shipping.
