because the pulley is resting against the oil pump gear and not the spacer. The de/det spacer doesnt protrude out of the pump for the pulley to stop against. So it hits the gear and if you torque it down your pushing on the gear. If you didnt torque it down at all your fine. Just get the adapter from Greg v that goes on along with your original spacer and be fine. Or find a ve spacer and take your original out. However good luck with the cover on getting the original out. So thats why i suggest the addition of Greg V's spacer. Simple and can be installed with the cover in place. Other than that pretty simple.

Well I finally got around to fitting my VE pump this weekend. Here is what I saw:

VE pickup, DET oil pan. You can see it hits the lower baffle (the lip coming off the circular opening).

What I did was cut a section out of the baffle to clear the VE pickup:

Pickup can now be bolted on. The picture is a little misleading but the pickup clears the lower oil pan as well:

I've fitted VE pumps to DET blocks before with absolutely no problems and you need this to do it..

its a modified VE pickup which has been cut, angled and braze welded to fit. I chose to modify this because of the smaller inner diameter differences with the DE/ DET pickups as it relates to the oil pump inlet diameter. This is for sale BTW.

look at how many answers to this thread compared to when i asked mines http://www.sr20-forum.com/turbo/34156-vvl-rwd-oil-pickup.html

I ended up widening the RWD DET Pickup bolt holes and use the DET pickup, RWD setup though : l

It's because you asked about the RWD SR's we are mostly FWD people in this thread.

This might be a dumb question but if you put a ve oil pump on a det block what crank pulley do you use. I ask because i have a det that i have to reinstall the oil pump on and am considering using the ve pump. I have a UR crank pulley on the car now.
