It'll be up but if motor is upside down like how I had it when I was working on it tjen yeah it'll be down. It'll be obvious when you try to bolt up the ve pickup.

You have the option of getting a gti-r pickup or wollowing out/rethreading the det pickup bolt holes, or you can cut and weld like str8180 said.

There is nothing you can bend to make the VE pickup fit in a det pan (at least the one that I have seen, from the Mossy kit), in a de or rr yeah. The pans for the det are a different shape

So I got the pick up squared away....motor buttoned up and I put the ve crank pulley on and it touches the pump.....wow. any thoughts?

you have to use the ve spacer, if you tried to crank it down without the ve spacer/oil pump drive on there I can gurantee you if you put any type of torque down on the crank bolt you just destroyed your ve pump. I pray you didnt torque the pulley on with the bolt. If so, gonna need a new pump.

The ve spacer is longer and protrudes through the pump. You can get the adapter spacer from GregV to use with your de/det spacer. It just goes on to extend it out so the pulley can rest on it instead of the pump gear itself. Or just find you a ve oil pump drive/spacer

So what did you end up doing? I've been looking for a GTI-R pickup for a while now but it's not easy finding someone who will part with one. I'm thinking about modifying the DET pickup tube, but the only thing I don't like about that is that the tube is a smaller diameter than the VE pickup tube.

I have the det pick up with the ve pump. I have had it since 06 with no problems (aside from needing a smaller oil restrictor for the oil lines to the turbo). I think the oil pressure is a little higher with the smaller tube but with less volume. It is still a big difference from the old pump.

thats right. I did so when installed gti-r oil pump on the ps13 crank without changing the spacer. The pump was broken

I didn't crank it down with torque. I was screwing the bolt in and noticed the pulley touched the pump so I stopped. How would the pump break from cracking it down....?
