swap battery to have a straight intake
has anyone done this?

how do you mount the battery above the gearbox mount and can you diy a straight intake out of bends and hoses or does it need to be fab'd up?

You can do that. I put my battery in the trunk to free up space for doing this though.

I know at least 1 person put the battery behind the fender, or where a CAI filter would sit. (lightweight battery)

On my cousins GC8 we have run a 12V battery from a home alarm and a 12V battery from a mobile car jumper to free up space. It does ok with the starter but if your car dont turn on easilly its starts to drain the battery after 4-5 times but does just fine after a run. We didnt have trouble turning it on after a long time ( after a week not more than two weeks). If you dont want to move it in the trunk thats what i suggest you.

I have a side exit exhaust and I put the Hawker style battery where the muffler was. I used two big bolts fender washers and some thick metal strips from the hardware store. Then I drilled some holes.
