Thread: UGH FML - Turbo Manifold Exhaust Leak.

This looks like its gonna be a pain in the ass to fix.. It feels like the bolts that hold the turbo to the manifold are loose. Cars only been driving for about 30 miles and was running great.

And now I have an exhaust leak, Im thinking its the downpipe at first probably needs to be tightened...Nope!

Take off manifold heat shield and it sounds like its coming from the bolts that hold the turbo to the manifold. The front 2 feel loose but I have very little clearance and it appears they have some sort of locking plate around them.

How can I tighten these? Is it common for them to become loose?



Search both forums returns little to no results, Any info would be appreciated as I was finally ready to start driving my car but it sounds like crap now and im sure is loosing a ton of power.

They do shake loose. On my GTiR setup there were tabs you could bend down so that this would not happen. Once the thing is all together its a pita to tighten them but not terrible you just have to get creative.

It feels like i have something like that on there as I cant get a wrench on it.. It was dark out but it feels like something like that is blocking it.

Same happen to me.... but i had to take my turbo and manifold off because the gasket in between the turbo and manifold had to be changed.

same thing happened to me. Your going to have to take the turbo and manifold off. I got so fed up with it I had a shop throw a tac weld on the bolts so there was no way they were backing out again.

install copper lock nuts and this will never be a issue again. atp sells them.

I got a bag of 100 for around $30 off eBay a while ago because I got sick of not having them around and they are easy to ruin when removing so it is nice to have tons of spares. I've never had a problem with them backing out.

Gonna order 10 or so. and replace all 4 holding the turbo to the manifold. Looks like fun to install may let my buddies shop just do it. I wanna drive already and really low on free time lately.
