Boost leak could be a good reason. If couplers aren't secured properly, they can start to leak over time. Boost/Vacuum gauge is a requirement, not an accessory. You can't troubleshoot a car easily without one.
A friend of mine who had a 2002 Subaru Impreza RS hatch, filled up with cheap gas, Sheetz and Hess if I recall correctly, he said his car sounded like it was knocking, drove poorly, and got bad gas mileage. As soon as he filled up with a better companies gas his car was just fine.
Cheap gas is cheap gas no matter which car you put it in. His local BP has was $.15 cheap, sounds like they added snake oil to the mix. Our local Hess likes to do that, I drive by it chuckling at the massive lines and people thinking they are getting deals of their lifetimes.
