jim wolf ecu vs compression ratio question
I have a jdm 9.5 to 1 compression sr20de. im trying to find out if i can use a jim wolf ecu tuned for a 8.5 to 1 compression turbo program. might sound like a stupid question, but im just trying to be safe. hopefully ill get somebody with experiance......i dont want to gamble with "theories".

If your trying to be on the safe side like you say, then go with the correct program. The timing maps are different.

so u plan on using a turbo ECU on an NA motor, not the greast of plans ur car will run like $hit

I'm guessing you're going to turbo that 9.5 and you have a JWT ECU for a 8.5 DET, is that right?

Well ,FWIW the previous owner of my current setup ( RR 9.5-1 lowport de+T ) blew up his previous Avenir engine and had turboed a RR lowport with the pre-existing JWT ECU and turbo kit, now i'm guessing they ddnt spend the $$$$ to send it back to JWT to reprogram for a 9.5 engine.

Mine runs completely fine. I too had wondered about this, since i was planning on getting a JDM 9.5 and drilling and tapping and swapping over all my existing turbo parts and engine management.....

Keep us posted...

not trying to be an ass, but i said no theories. it would actually run quiet decent, but i was refering to the timing maps, and it seems that question was answered. NO i don not have a ecu yet, its just finding one for a 9.5 seems to be like finding a needle in a haystack. on top of this, i see MANY people running boosted jdm NON turbo motors, and wondered what they were doing. YES, i can send it to be reprogrammed, ive had personal experiance with jim wolf, we have an account with them for our shop.....they are just SLOW on the turn around. and by the way, this is my 4th turbo b13.....

the OTHER part of my curiosity, is if im using my na ecu, and now have a high compression motor in the car, is there a timing diffrence there? cause it runs great, i have NO problem with detonation (even with 87, ill be honest) and the guys that use jdm turbo ecus on their b13 turbo, wether its a jdm turbo motor, us motor, or jdm NON turbo motor....seem to be fine, no matter what the motor choice. im just wondering if anyone KNOWS. guess ill cal jim wolf up and chat with them.

Get a CALUM basic ECU, and stop worrying. Tell him what you're running with, and he'll put the proper bin file on it, and you'll be fine from day one. Not to mention it's cheaper.

i have considered calum, but this is my daily, i dont want to bother with getting the tune right. the previus cars i had had a jim wolf ecu and i was more than satisfied. i MIGHT go that route, but again......tend to like what were used to.

A calum tuned ECU is just like a JWT ecu. Get a calum basic for like $150 or something like that, and call it a day. Your setup has been done plenty, before.
