I think the SR16 will perform better at mid-range. Def be interesting to see how they compare with this turbo. I am doing the dyno test tomorrow. Remember, this dyno reads a bit lower than dynojet. I only made 421whp on this dyno last year, but dynojet said 478whp. Thats about a 50whp difference.

If I can hit 421whp this year on under 20psi then I will be ecstatic. 20psi should be safe on 100 octane. If not, I melt the engine again and build another

It seems to hit boost around 5k-5.5k. After 6K it is retarded. Tires just spin when the VVL hits. The cams are so large, that partial throttle kicking the intake at 3500rpm caused it to bog down the engine. Full throttle it kicks good, but part throttle you hit the VVL and you feel it kill power. So I pushed the cams kicking upward to around 6k. It seems to transition here the best under half-throttle. But when it hits, and it hits hard, the tires light up.

I've been hitting the limiter pretty hard without expecting it. The rev limit is 8800rpm and the engine pulls all the way with seemingly no dropoff in power. It just seems to build and build... like it want to rev more. But I don't think I can push these 20V cams passed 9k safely. Who knows.

The SR16 cams would be safer to push to higher rpm, and the mid-range could help. At 3000-3500rpm there is a flat spot that didn't seem like it was there before. Most likely from the retarded timing. It seriously needs timing to feel good on the bottom-end. Likely a result from the lower compression. I'm betting an extra 4* timing down low, with it backing off at 5k would do wonders for this engine. Bottom end power is still good though, and snapping throttle open at 3k still puts you in your seat. It's just the rest of the powerband that puts it to shame.

It is interesting to see that I have been clipping the rev limiter without watching the tach closely. Mostly because at 8800rpm I never really hit the limiter. I could feel the engine lose power after 8k, and by 8500rpm the motor wanted to shift. So the extra 300-500rpm was kindof a buffer so I could hold it in gear a bit longer if needed. Now, it feels like the engine wants to blow that limiter off the tach.

Would 9500rpm be so bad? jk

I will see what the dyno tells me, my butt dyno only gets you so far. Does it feel like 100whp gain? No. Perhaps 30whp. Hard to say. But the dyno tells all. Let me post this pic of last year's dyno on the highest boost the engine would do...

Hopefully I hold the torque out longer and make more power that way.

Here is 10psi, 14psi, and 14psi + timing. SR16 cams. See that torque drop bad up top.

Jeremy, im telling you, your power is probably gonna be still climbing at 8800, lol. I can almost bet you that. Probably 30whp gain from 6k to where you made peak power at before but then probably massive gains above that. You should be fine on 20psi on 100 octane. I can bet you you will blow that 421 out of the water and probably on way less boost. That turbo w/ large housing loves the topend. It was crazy how well the t67 h.o. w/ c2 cams just pulled all the way to 8700 and power still climbing.

Cant wait for your results tomorrow. Ill be glued to the computer as usual. lol

I would like to hit 400whp on 14psi. and 500whp on 20psi. That's my goal on dynojet. I have no clue what the dynomite is gonna say. 15psi or so should be around 400whp I think. grrrr. I cant wait to see what it does.

what Coheed is saying is very similar when we used a log + t3 .63 a/r 6257 sized turbonetics and later on went to a tubular t4 .86 a/r 6262 sized Turbonetics with standard ve cams, the power never felt like its dropping off at 8k so we set it at 8.5k and still the same thing , we didnt have no upgraded valve springs and it threw a shim though.

Off to the dyno. Wish me luck!
