What about surge?

Surge will be dependent on the boost level being run. So far I experience zero surge until throttle is lifted, then there is slight surge at low rpm when the bov doesn't open.

The big boost is coming. Stay tuned. With a metal MAF box, I feel good taking this turbo to 30psi... or as high as the boost controller will take me.

That is the plan lol. I would like to dyno at 13, 16, 20, and 24psi.

But the cams switch and don't feel like they hit as hard. Perhaps at 6k they will hit a lot harder. They seem to perform very similar to the VET cams from what I remember. The nice kick at 3800rpm from the 1.6 exhaust cam kicking in will be missed

the real story is going to come tomorrow with the timing back at my trusty timing mark. then the dyno. Then we will see what happens.

Could it possibly feel like less of a kick because your low lobes are making much more power?

Absolutely. The 1.6 cams did kinda suck down low, and that is why kicking the cams was so effective. But it also felt like the cams died pretty bad after 8500rpm. This could be a tune issue, since the factory tune cannot change timing settings after 8k. But the top end still feels better with the 20V cams to me. I am not 100% sure if this is the case.

But the bottom end response, at least what I feel before 3k, does feel improved. Switching the cams makes a noticeable difference in exhaust note, with a different tone than the SR16 cams, even though the ex side seems to be almost identical. The intake side will need some more fine tuning I think.

I am going to set the cams to switch at 5000-6000rpm and see how it feels then. I have advanced timing by a couple degrees on the dizzy.

I put a scratch in the cam cap where the dizzy lines up at 15* years ago. The dizzy is still slightly retarded compared to this scratch, but I want it to be safe for the mean time. At least until I put my timing light on it to see where it truly is.

Before the cam swap, I had the timing scratch lined up, but I had no way to time the engine because the harmonic balancer had slipped timing, and the marks were off.

The car feels awesome. 10psi this morning, rolling throttle it rips both tires loose at 60mph. Tires are 225-45-15 Potenza RE01r. I couldn't believe it to be honest. 10psi should only be 300-320whp. Breaking tires loose with the HLSD and these tires at that speed is impressive to me.

Switching cams later feels better, and each degree of timing added makes the car feel better. I am sitting around 15-16* base right now, but I have a hard time getting into timing mode to get stable readings. Perhaps tomorrow I will have better luck.

The koyo is amazing.

Looking over datalogs from a couple years ago, I was seeing 85% duty cycle at 24psi boost at 7500rpm. 20* timing, and 4.76V MAF. Peak torque timing value was 12* at 5k rpm.

I would think the timing was conservative being JWT, but I am using ethanol enriched 91 octane.

The car feels great. Everything feels awesome. 10psi is awesome. Cant wait to hook up the boost controller. I'll do that tomorrow, and then I'll see how it feels on 14psi. Should be freakin' intense

you guys really need to try some Toyo Proxes RA1's , 225 / 50 / 15's as you all are FWD , its alot of trouble to get them here these days but up in the States its soo easy i bet.

Ever tried those Coheed? Can you run those on the steet ? or the rules too strict?

I can't run a 15 anymore. But I had some BFG 225-45-15 and they didn't grip as well as these.

Should I be nervous pushing these Nismo 740cc past 90% duty?

The potenza re01r are prob the best true street tire I have used. The ra1's a are good also, but he is not spinning due to crap tires. the re01r's and the ra1's are the same sort of thing different brands.

The only thing he could really step up to would be r888's. Budget wise the kuhmo ku36 is great. I think they are called something different know

If you plan on pushing past 90% duty cycle you better make sure that tune is on point. Your room for error is tiny.
