Absolutely. The 1.6 cams did kinda suck down low, and that is why kicking the cams was so effective. But it also felt like the cams died pretty bad after 8500rpm. This could be a tune issue, since the factory tune cannot change timing settings after 8k. But the top end still feels better with the 20V cams to me. I am not 100% sure if this is the case.
But the bottom end response, at least what I feel before 3k, does feel improved. Switching the cams makes a noticeable difference in exhaust note, with a different tone than the SR16 cams, even though the ex side seems to be almost identical. The intake side will need some more fine tuning I think.
I am going to set the cams to switch at 5000-6000rpm and see how it feels then. I have advanced timing by a couple degrees on the dizzy.
I put a scratch in the cam cap where the dizzy lines up at 15* years ago. The dizzy is still slightly retarded compared to this scratch, but I want it to be safe for the mean time. At least until I put my timing light on it to see where it truly is.
Before the cam swap, I had the timing scratch lined up, but I had no way to time the engine because the harmonic balancer had slipped timing, and the marks were off.
