Not unless you are planning on putting a VE head. DE's oil pressure is low enough not to have to worry about having a restrictor on a turbo.

ok so what else is needed in this recipe:

stock VE motor
turbo manifold
fmic
gt2871r (any specific specs?)
370cc injectors
tap block for oil return
water + oil lines for the turbo
what's this about an oil restrictor for the turbo?
16 ve cams, dailed to?

I think I'd be happy with 300whp if it is reliable.

The GT2871r should have the .86ar housing. They have some versions with an unclipped exhaust wheel, and those versions make more power.

You need a 4 bar program to run the 370cc injectors for 300whp, and I don't really trust them up there to be honest. 550cc should do it.

16ve cams are prob too big for what you want to do. Keep the 20ve, they make more mid-range.

^^^ Cool. Cost of 550cc injectors can be offset against 16ve cams. I read somewhere the stock VE cams have too much overlap for turbo. Can it be dailed out?

I run a walbro + full management. Guess I must throw a AFPR on there too. This recipe reliable? Should I be worried about the stock ve rods and 4cw crank at all?

The sr16 cams have way more overlap. Only decent for a large turbo. The nature of the beast, you cannot dial out the overlap with good results.

Don't worry about stock VE rods, 300whp is nothing. And the crank is still really strong. We have made over 450whp with the 4cw up here. 500whp is still doable. I don't think anyone has broken one.

what about the the se-r transmission
cause I was thinking about going VE-t as well but I've once heard the se-r tranny can't handle more than 250 whp

Get yourself some STi's. They are under $200 used, I got mine at rock auto for $190 (refurbished by GC engineering).

Stock VE cams have 48* of overlap, 16VE have 70* of overlap. VET cams have 13* of overlap. If you plan on using a restrictive manifold like a Log, then even VE cams will be suffering (like they are for me right now).

As per Mike Kojima, SE-R trans are actually good for 170whp reliably. After that you are really cutting the lifespan of them. I had mine at 230whp/220ft-lbs for a year without a problem, but I don't shift/ like an idiot either.

So what tranny are u using now? What power figures are u at right now and what is your setup and boost levels?

Given the chance would you do it again or go all motor or big bore n/a perhaps? Maybe factory det? How is the out of boost performance?

Also, what specific problems are you experiencing. Because of the 20ve cams?

Doctor g stick to all motor.

Ive had 3 n/a des, three det setups , one being a 7181r with 400wheel.

I like n/a better.

Spend the money and repair your built ve.

Stratton.

I was almost ready to just turn the car NA and call it a day. But once I got my car to cool with AC, I decided to stick with boost.

I'm running a P11 (00) trans in a P11. NA is too dog slow on a P11, if I had a B14 I probably would have stayed NA with 16VE cams.

VE's performance out of boost is amazing, AC turns on and I don't really feel it dragging. On my stock P11, once AC turns on the car is dog slow.

I had a DET in my sentra, out of boost performance was sucky, if it wasn't for a no lag turbo I would have hated it.

I'm looking for VET cams, once I try them out I will know for sure if it's the 20ve cams or if it's the log, or something else.
