VE Head on 87mm Piston
Hi! Before you guys tell me " do a search " i do !! But i can find a clear awnser..

Ok.. I have a det block whit wiseco 87mm piston . And i put ve head on it and vet head gasket .. I have a SR16 cams . My question is .. With vet headgasket and sr16 cam i have a suficient clearance for det piston?? I need to change my cams to sr20ve cams? I need to snotch my pistons??
What i can do??
Thanks!!

no problem...as long as they are 8.5.1..u should be fine. i had 9.5.1 pistons in a ve with sr16 cams, no valve relief and was revving to 8k fine.

If they dont have valve reliefs then they will not clear. If the weiscos come with reliefs you will probably be fine. And from the sound of it they dont.

You will hit valves with the sr16 cams. Cant run any more than the stock 20ve cams with regular det pistons that is unless they have notches already.

There is mixed answers on this others that have done this and have taken apart motors have noticed nicks on the pistons from contact. So I would be careful what you rev it to if you want to chance it but I wouldnt.

VET head gasket is 86.5mm bore, not too sure if it will work with your 87mm pistons.

This might be a little off topic, but can a SR20VET head gasket properly seal a 87mm psiton??

DET pistons will be fine with SR16 cams. Many have done it with no issues.

Thats true but ass soon as you miss a gear or get some kind of valve float the valves will touch the pistons I am 100% sure I experienced several years ago when I did my first DE/VE with wiseco 87mm flat top pistons and SR16 cams even on turbo piston the area where the valve hits its the outside area of the crown where still flat.. With regular SR20VE you have less chance since there its less lift and duration than SR16 cams = more valve to piston clearance....
