20 psi didnt kill that turbo, that turbo should be good to 25-28psi easily.

It had to do with the chra change. You either torqued something down to tight or something

sucks to hear.

I dont think I would ever take that much...or any meat out of the bottom of the port on a ve. I would have modified the spacer

You would have to add epoxy or something to fill the space. Its honestly not that much.

Also VE na is running a ton better. Looks like ssac's rear bung is too far in the back. I tuned the car to 12.8ish, well today I noticed my front O2 was disabled. While cruising the front o2 made the afr's be around 13.7-14.4. Unless my front o2 is dying the wideband is reading 1 afr too rich. I updated the tune and made it be 11.8-12 at wot (12.8-13). The car is a lot more lively now!

Will have to do a 0-60 run now

Here is the turbo, what do you guys think, salvageable?

I also still had Rotella 15w40 in the car, even NA. I drove the car down to Tennessee then Florida. When I was coming back home, I stopped in Georgia and figured I would check the oil. It was on the lowest oil point. No oil leaks no blue smoke, or anything.

I'm beginning to think the Rotella going low is what killed this turbo. Plus I was driving up a mountain flooring it when it died (steep up hill).

You can see some metal torn here

Here is the bearing that did the damage

Garret Water Cooled CHRA

Here is the Precision one

Look at the thrust bearing

Back of CHRA

Oil exit, doesn't look like there is any sludge

Journaled bearing just came out with the turbine

Yeah, rebuildable.

it probably had to do with clearnace issues using the garrett chra by the looks of it. Looks like everything was a tight fit. Or you overtorqued the compressor wheel nut.

You can rebuild that turbo no problem. Get yourself a rebuild kit with a 360 deg thrust bearing and rebuild that thing using the precision housing. Having coolant running through the turbo is not as big of a help as you think.
